A delegation from the Belgian Ministry of Defence, led by Minister of Defence Theo Francken, visited KONGSBERG last week as an extension of the official state visit to Norway. The delegation, including representatives from the MOD and key Belgian defence industry partners, toured KONGSBERG’s facilities to gain insight into ongoing production and explore opportunities for strengthened industrial cooperation. During the visit, KONGSBERG signed two Letters of Intent (LOIs) with Sonaca and ScioTeq, linked to Belgium’s planned acquisition of the NASAMS air defence system. The agreements reinforce growing industrial cooperation between Belgium and Norway and reflect a shared commitment to long-term capability development. The newly signed LOIs are in addition to the three LOIs established during BEDEX – Brussels European Defence Exhibition & Conference, involving Advionics nv, Sioen Industries, and FERONYL sa. “Modern procurement must deliver military capability, yes, but it must also contribute to industrial growth, technological competence, and economic resilience,” said Øyvind Kolset, EVP Missiles and Aerospace at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. #NASAMS #Cooperation #DefenceCapability

From early curiosity to advanced underwater electronics Amund’s interest in electronics began early, starting at the kitchen table in Feiring and developing from a hobby into a role in advanced underwater technology. He now contributes to the continued development of HISAS, a high-resolution synthetic aperture sonar that produces detailed images of the seabed. “The concept is that we take many images in sequence and stitch them together, as if we had a much larger sensor. The result is extremely clear underwater images,” he explains. The technology is used for applications such as inspection of oil pipelines and deep-water search operations. Previous versions of HISAS have also been used to map shipwrecks in the Oslofjord and to search for dumped ammunition. 🔗 Read more about Amund’s workday in our electronics environment: https://brnw.ch/21x18ON Photo credit: Ludvig Juvodden #ElectronicsEngineers #JoinUs #Technology

We were honoured to welcome His Majesty King Philippe and Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of Belgium, together with the Minister of Defence of Belgium and representatives from the Belgian Armed Forces, to Sola, Norway. The visit provided an opportunity to present the NASAMS air defence system and provide an overview of its capabilities. Our guests showed strong interest and engaged directly with the people behind it, gaining first-hand insight into its functions. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway was also present and referred to having previously experienced NASAMS in Poland. During the visit, the programme also included a meeting with Norwegian conscripts, giving a practical perspective on how the system is operated and supported. Developed by KONGSBERG in cooperation with Raytheon, NASAMS has been selected by 15 nations, including 8 NATO allies. #NASAMS #AirDefence #DefenceSolutions

How can we encourage more young people to choose vocational education? This was a key topic when we welcomed a delegation from the Conservative Party last week to learn more about K-tech AS and our apprenticeship model. Ola Svenneby, Mathilde Tybring-Gjedde, and mayors Line Spiten (Kongsberg) and Oda Bakke Fosen (Flesberg) joined the visit, which continued at Arsenalet, one of our production facilities, with a tour and insights into KONGSBERG’s development in recent years. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to discuss how we can work together to strengthen vocational education and meet future competence needs. We appreciate the interest and the opportunity to share experiences from a model that works – for apprentices, for industry, and for future competence needs. #Ktech #VocationalEducation #Production
