What if 1 tax technology startup can save 6 months of work for your team? Then why not map 200 startups that could do the same? Here’s our report. While working on the Top 200 Startups in Tax Technology 2026 report, two numbers stood out. The first one: Did you know that the top 10 firms engaged with tax technology startups 24% more on a project basis in 2025 than in 2024. That is impressive, and when firms start working more with startups, we pay close attention. It usually means the tools are moving into real delivery work. The second number: Investment into tax technology startups increased by 29% from 2020 to 2025. It looks like more firms are testing startups in actual projects and with that more investors are watching this industry. "Who is building something useful?" That is why we mapped 200 startups and emerging products in tax technology. Inside the report: → The Market landscape and startup formation data → Investment momentum and visibility → Scope and selection criteria → The rise of Tax Technology Startups 2016 - 2026 → The Market in 5 years from now → Founder views on where tax technology is heading → 22 featured startup spotlights → A broader directory of 200 startups and emerging products What stood out most to us is that the strongest startups are usually not solving glamorous problems but they are solving painful ones. Our expectation: Some of these companies will stay niche and some will be acquired. A few may become much bigger than people expect today. Maybe we have listed the next unicorn in this list, who knows. Comment "startups" and we’ll send you the report link. 𝟭𝟳 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝟭 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝟱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀? Reading through the answers, a few things come back again and again. → AI will take over much more of the compliance chain Not only small tasks, but larger parts of tax workflows: monitoring, calculations, filings, document handling, data checks and follow-up actions. → Real-time tax is becoming the direction of travel Live data, continuous validation, digital reporting and tax authorities moving closer to transaction-level visibility. That came back in several answers. → Integrated platforms will become more important The market seems to be moving away from separate tools and disconnected processes. The stronger solutions will probably be the ones that sit closer to finance, ERP, invoicing, reporting and operational data. → Tax teams will work differently Less time spent collecting data, fixing spreadsheets and chasing numbers. More time spent reviewing exceptions, asking better questions and making decisions with the data already on the table. → Human expertise is still very much part of the story This was maybe the most interesting part. Even with AI and automation, the founders still mentioned judgment, interpretation, accountability and real tax knowledge. Technology can do a lot, but someone still needs to understand what is happening. So yes, the market is clearly moving fast. But the winners will probably not be the companies that simply buy a tool because there is a mandate or because AI sounds good on a slide. The winners will be the companies that connect tax technology properly to how their business actually works. Big thanks to all founders who shared their view! This is really impressive. We are already above 2,000 votes for the Top 50 Women in Tax Technology 2026. And what makes it even better: all nominees were nominated by the community itself. This is now our third year running this recognition, and it really feels like the community around women in tax technology is growing very fast. More nominations, more votes, more recommendations, and a lot more people supporting each other. 𝗩𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 https://lnkd.in/ewpZ-76u 𝗣𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 One thing we really like to see is that nominees are also voting for each other. That is probably the most valuable vote you can receive. It is also exactly why we introduced Peer Voting this year. If a nominee receives a vote from another nominee, that vote gets a multiplier. So the score becomes more powerful, and the recognition becomes more meaningful. The appreciation between nominees really stands out. Honestly, it is fantastic to see. So many nominees submitted...we might have to consider a Top 100 for next year. Over the past few days, we also received hundreds of requests to make the written recommendations visible on each nominee profile. These recommendations count as one vote, and some of them are really worth reading. So we extended this from 20 visible recommendations to 200. Every nominee can now see up to their last 200 received recommendations on their profile. I would really recommend reading them. It is honest, personal, and full of appreciation from people in the market. There are still 22 days left to vote. The Top 10 will receive a special feature. And of course, the winner receives the official title for 2026, badge and recognition. So let’s keep voting.
