As someone who comes from a family of accountants, I'll concur that your first 14 words are the correct answer. There are lots of accountants who specialize in exactly this and are far more knowledgeable than random netizens or people at those retail "tax prep" stores. Sure, they'll cost you money, but an accountant that's worth their salt will make sure that they're saving you far more money than they're billing you.
