Steward requests/Global permissions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Shortcut:
SRGP
This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Global rollback for Như Gây Mê

[edit]
Not ending before 05:53, 3 August 2025 (UTC)

Hi, I'm Như Gây Mê. I have been active in patrolling small wikis for quite a time and has been active continuously for over 3 months since I started back to Wiki in April. Last time I applied for GR, I realized I was hasty in applying too early. I'm requesting for it again in the hope that I have changed myself positively. Thanks for your consideration. Global rename for 1F616EMO

[edit]
Not ending before 05:41, 7 August 2025 (UTC)

I have read through the global rename policy and would like to help in handling rename requests on the Chinese Wikipedia, handle requests written in Chinese, and reject those obviously not meeting the policy. My main focus will be on simple renaming requests, i.e., those not involving usurpation, but I will keep an eye on usurpations and reject what's clearly not going to pass.

Before renaming a user, I will check their block log across all wikis, including active and previous blocks. On wikis where they are active, especially their home wiki, the local administrator's noticeboard will also be checked for major disputes. If major disputes or reasonable blocks existed, it is required by the policy not to take a username that is too distinct from the old one. Their new name will be assessed based on the local policies on their active wikis, checked for possible impersonation attempts by searching the new name in local Village Pumps, and checked for duplications by visiting Special:CentralAuth.

I am a local edit filter manager on my home wiki, the Chinese Wikipedia. I am also a VRT member and am willing to handle requests submitted through email. I want to take this role as an opportunity to familiarize myself with interwiki collaboration further and be more involved in the Wikimedia movement. 1F616EMO (on zhwiki) 05:41, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Global rename for S8321414

[edit]
Not ending before 05:31, 13 August 2025 (UTC)

Hi, I have read global rename policy and Global renamers pages. I am administrator of Wikidata, Chinese Wikipedia and Chinese Wikivoyage so I may block some users because they violate local username policy (for now, mostly on Chinese Wikipedia). When they request to change username later, I need to request global renamers to do this. So I want to request global rename permission to do this.

I will mostly deal with requests written with Chinese but still will check their contributions on other wikis. Thank you in advance for consideration. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by S8321414 (talk) 05:32, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Global rename for Oshwah

[edit]
Not ending before 13:14, 13 August 2025 (UTC)

Hi there! I'm here in order to request reinstatement of the global renamer permissions after a period of inactivity. I typically use the permissions following a block request on en-wiki by users who are blocked for usernames that violate the username policy, but I also reviewed and responded to the list of current requests as well. I became inactive due to life obligations, which became much more prominent due to having a brain tumor discovered and removed via brain surgery (my story and updates can be read here. Warning: the page contains graphic images.) about three months ago. Now that I'm past most of the major ordeals related to my health, I'm here to request the user right back in order to serve the project. My previous request discussion is available here for those who wish to view it. If anyone has any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll be happy to discuss them with you. I want to sincerely thank everyone who reached out to me with their support, thoughts and prayers, kind words, and words of encouragement during my excruciating surgery and recovery, and I thank everyone in advance for reviewing my request and for their consideration and input (regardless of whether or not it is to support the request). :-) Best regards and sincerely yours - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:14, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for global IP block exemption

Global IP block exempt for Zophas

[edit]

I am a user who currently lives in China and would need a global IP block exemption to make contributions to metaWiki, thanks, --Zophas (talk) 12:30, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This request itself is a contribution here on the metawiki, what sort of challenge are you having? — xaosflux Talk 11:11, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry for the confusion. I cannot create local accounts in other wikimedia projects such as the Chinese wikiquote (“Auto-creation of a local account failed”) due to a global ban on the IP addresses of the proxies I'm using. Zophas (talk) 12:07, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And I cannot edit wikidata due to global IP bans Zophas (talk) 05:40, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Are there anything else I can do or evidence to provied? @Xaosflux Zophas (talk) 13:08, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Someone will get to your request eventually, there is currently a backlog. You may also apply directly to projects by emailing them, if they have email support. — xaosflux Talk 13:12, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for YzmLiyuu

[edit]

Hello, my Username is YzmLiyuu. I am a logged-in user from mainland China, mainly contributing to the Japanese and Chinese Wikipedias.

Due to internet censorship in mainland China (Great Firewall), I am unable to access Wikimedia projects directly. In order to edit Wikipedia, I have to use proxies or VPN services. I have already been granted IP block exemption (IPBE) on Chinese Wikipedia, and I always edit in good faith.

However, after editing Japanese Wikipedia for a short time, I was globally blocked due to my IP address being within the range 2605:52C0:2::/48, which was blocked by EPIC on 2024-06-17 for "Open proxy/Webhost".

I do not abuse proxies, and I only use them as a necessary tool to access Wikipedia due to regional restrictions. Unfortunately, this global block also prevents me from editing my own user talk page in Japanese Wikipedia , making it impossible to request locally.

Therefore, I would like to kindly request the Global IP Block Exemption (GIPBE) flag for my account so I can continue contributing constructively to Wikimedia projects under my registered account.

Thank you very much for your understanding and support.

Global IP block exempt for For Each ... Next

[edit]

Hi. I live in Mainland China and have to edit Wikidata and other projects by proxy. Thanks. --For Each ... Next (talk) 16:48, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You have recent contributions on the example project you say you have an issue with: d:Special:Contributions/For_Each_..._Next. — xaosflux Talk 13:31, 25 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My proxies aren't always stable, so I often switch between them. Some have been globally blocked, and others aren't (but should be) blocked at the moment. I mainly edit on the Chinese Wikipedia, where I have local IPBE, so most of the time this doesn’t affect my Wikimedia life. However, when a proxy does get blocked globally, it prevents me from performing certain actions, such as adding a link for a new page. I can try several times to switch one, but I believe having global IPBE would make it easier for me to contribute smoothly. For Each ... Next (talk) 17:08, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
