To start with, congratulations to the winner of the previous contest! Joachim's screenshot from won with 12 upvotes!

Last week's winning screenshot one

To submit a screenshot, simply post it as an answer to this question, but please take note of the following:

  • One screenshot per post, and one post per person, please!
  • Limited picture modifications are allowed, such as cropping, simple filters, and blurring of identifying info such as names, but not adding other images or text.
  • To ensure a fair playing field, please post screenshots you've taken yourself rather than ones you found online.
  • Stack Exchange’s Code of Conduct still applies - so if it would be unacceptable to post normally, it’s unacceptable here.

Also, try to avoid pictures that include spoilers. We want everyone to be able to enjoy this contest, so the less spoilers the better.

How long will the contest run?

We will accept submissions for a week, until September 1, 2025, then have a second week-long period where only voting will be accepted. This is to give every submission, even those posted at the end of the first week, a chance to be voted on by everyone.

After the end of the second week, at the end of the day on September 8, 2025, we will count upvotes only to determine the winning screenshot, which will be featured for a week on the main site's photo widget.

This week's theme: Difficult decisions

Games often ask us to make hard and meaningful choices. Let's collect the moments in gaming which had us put down the controller and think hard about what's the right course of action.

As a reminder, we're always accepting suggestions for themed weeks, and have compiled that suggestion process into a question of its own. Additionally, there is the hall of fame you can check out that contains all the previous contest winners.

There's one I have in mind, but I cannot post it without creating a major spoiler (which we want to avoid). Gonna see if I have something "safer". Commented Aug 27, 2025 at 7:54

Can I really trust her? A difficult decision

"Can I really trust her? Can I be sure this isn't yet another stunt for the show? Does she truly want to help me get out of here?"

Questions you ask yourself when you stand before this choice, near the end of the game in .

Btw, not the choice I had in mind at first, but then I stumbled over this one and thought: That also represents the theme pretty well. I did find one of those I initally looked for too, it can found here Commented Aug 28, 2025 at 13:01

A part of me was curious about how that kind of top she's wearing is called. Apparently, that's called a halterneck crop top. Commented Aug 31, 2025 at 9:22

In every single video game I played, I always found this to be the hardest choice to make: how should I name my character...?

The screensot is showing a character creation page. A prompt is asking for a First Name, a Last Name, and a Street nickname. The first two are left empty, but the inputted nickname is "Clockwork".

  • I've replayed this game many times, and more than once, I ran out of inspiration and re-used "Clockwork" several times as a street nickname. Talk about a lack of originality :| Commented Aug 27, 2025 at 9:21

You win! Even worse in online games, where after you finally decided on the perfect name for your character, it's of course "already taken" and you are back to square one. Commented Aug 28, 2025 at 8:33
  • I thought this was supposed to be about decisions with real in-universe consequences, not cosmetic stuff. But I guess the law of triviality takes hold. Commented Aug 28, 2025 at 21:55
  • @Perry Honestly, I went through the same thoughts when I was looking at my screenshots and stumbled on this. But I also admit I do tend to spend disproportionate efforts on too many things. Commented Aug 29, 2025 at 6:51

In the Meet Kamski scenario of , you're tasked to either Shoot or Spare Chloe, the first sentient android model. If you Shoot, Kamski will answer one question. If you Spare, you leave without learning anything.

I chose to Shoot :P

@Clockwork The question I asked didn’t get a great answer for Connor, but for me, with meta knowledge of what’s happening with the other androids, was helpful, I think. If a bit vague :P Commented Aug 31, 2025 at 17:25

destroy or consume fountain

This comes from Malfurion's Quest, an unofficial campaign for . This very choice ultimately determines the fate of the story:

The bottom choice results in you becoming evil and gradually destroying the world, whereas the story path for the top choice has yet to be concluded but is much more positive.

It's a classic "morals v. power" dilemma; the titular character is in an extremely rough spot (having woken up to a partly-destroyed world, an ominous prophecy, and then just beaten a fairly tricky boss), and their "inner voice" has been tormenting them for not having enough power to stop the upcoming threat. The screen is in red because it's in the middle of an episode of the inner voice expressing itself, which is represented by flashes of red, and other characters reacting as if he had fainted or gone unconscious.

You later learn six missions into the top branch (hence mission 8 total, since the choice is made at the en of mission 2) of the campaign that:

The inner voice is actually the manifestation of a powerful demon who attempted to corrupt Malfurion while he was sleeping.

  • Funny, I was thinking: "Wait, I don't remember seeing that in the main game" when I saw the prompt. Commented Aug 27, 2025 at 5:30

(For anyone wondering which decision I took, the first time I played the campaign the good branch hadn't been released yet so the evil branch was the only choice, and then when the good branch was released I played it too. So I chose both) Commented Aug 28, 2025 at 21:56

Four floor vents, one ceiling vent above a jar of grease, and a mysterious sparkling wastepaper basket.

The players glider has entered a room called “The Grand Junction” and they are faced with a choice of four floor vents. Presumably, at least one leads to ceiling vent that drops down to a jar of grease on a high shelf. beyond this is a stack of creates with a battery sitting on top. And behind the crates is a sparkling wastepaper basket.

2
  • You have to choose to land in one of these holes? Commented Sep 1, 2025 at 13:52
  • 2
@Clockwork Yeah, the open floor vents transport you to other rooms. The first leads to a small obstacle course in a room with the lights switched off, for some rubber bands as a prize. The second takes you to a kitchen and bathroom with lots of enemies (appliances and drips) for tin-foil (armour). The third floor vent takes you to a series of 6 rooms with nasty tricks in them. The fourth takes you to the 70-or-so–room labyrinth that is the basement, but there is a star at the end. They all eventually send you back to the vent in the ceiling, so you get to choose again. I like Otakuwu's screenshot better because it's showing the actual screen where you make the choice, not the leadup. Commented Aug 31, 2025 at 14:44
