vivo X500 Pro Max review

thenamelessone7, 29 Oct 2026Except it has been proven that top-notch HIFI from 80s and ... moreI think what LV wanted to say has something related to analog vs digital. There are some old timers who believe the digital music can't capture a certain element of analog.
Of course, in my 20 years of romancing music, I don't know what that is, nor have I met someone in person who said so.

Otherwise, there' not an iota of doubt that the music player quality has improved within the digital realm, of course. We're listening to lossless FLAC's, on players with Quad DAC's, and top of the line headphones like AKG's and Bose and all.

Jpeg does not have 10% of the issues many phones have today.
None of my photos from it look like wax or painting.

Motorola has improved lately. After trading omnivision for sony.
Jpeg from edge 30/40/50 series are very 🤮.

I haven't read the article yet, but as it seems that the phone has a great camera I will read it soon because I'm a photography lover .

At best some old school speakers are might still be good.

"They don't care" is exactly what's meant by "they are fine with it".

It's a shame because for years we had to resort to GCam mods or other 3rd party apps to get the most out of our cameras, since OEMs dumb down their tuning to the most basic user requirements. But at least now on some phones we have options to manually tweak almost everything. Next crucial step is them allowing us to remove noise reduction and also AI enhancement.

LV426, 29 Oct 2026They are not fine with that. They are just dumb and dont ca... more"They are just dumb and dont care, coz they know nothing"
Well, you just said it yourself. They don't care about image quality in an intricate sense like a lot of photographers do. Most of them only care about having sharp images with perfectly balanced exposure all the time. Smartphones are targeted towards those kinds of demographics; therefore manufacturers choose to tune their default JPEG processing in a way that will please those average Joes the most.

User935, 29 Oct 2026I beg to differ. My D850 produces absolutely gorgeous, yet ... more"yet perfectly natural photos/colours in its default image profile and whatever other settings"
Eh, not all the times. With dedicated cameras, due to the lack of competent auto HDR, there are situations where you would be forced to get around dynamic range limitations (e.g. Expose for the highlights while keeping an eye on the histogram and hope that shadow noise will be taken care of by the desktop RAW developer). There are also moments when my Find X8 Ultra and Find X9 Pro capture more pleasant images than my X100 VI simply because they can correct for strong colour casts in the scene more effectively and automatically apply appropriate masks to subjects.

"unlike on "Pro cameraphones" where you have to set -100 sharpness and whatever other nonsense"
That seems pretty specific to Vivo as the sharpness slider on Oppo's camera app starts from 0.

"While on the subject... Does any of these "pro" camera phones finally come with options to process RAWs in their gallery apps? And/or also come with a free Windows/MacOS RAW processor like my cameras do?"
Yes, Oppo's gallery app can edit RAW files taken on my phones. And while they don't come with a free desktop app specifically for editing these files, I use Lightroom for these phone RAW files anyway. I have Sony and Fuji cameras but I don't use free RAW developers provided by the camera manufacturers as they are usually seriously lacking in features (e.g. AI noise reduction, advanced masking/local edits, custom LUT support) often needed for the kind of photography I do, i.e. Event photos. So for the RAW files I have shot with my dedicated cameras, my usual go-to RAW developers are DaVinci Resolve Studio and PhotoLab.

LV426, 28 Oct 2026People want good colors etc from box, im tired of many sett... moreMost people are fine with heavy-handed post-processing, so manufacturers naturally choose such processing as a default setting (Heck, even Sony does this in auto mode). Those who want a "natural" look without any sharpening, dynamic range compression, tonemapping or strong saturation are in the minority, so they only provide them to us as a form of sliders and toggles. For the vast majority of smartphone users across the world, Vivo's default processing is "great" straight out of the box, although I would like to tune it manually if I had one of their phones.

And editing them is a matter of seconds in its RAW processing menu; or Nikon's very capable free Windows RAW editor/processor. Or setting stuff to own preferences beforehand, with very logical naming of options etc., unlike on "Pro cameraphones" where you have to set -100 sharpness and whatever other nonsense.

In other words, should you want to see what the ultimate point and shoot camera experience feels like, I can wholeheartedly recommend a Nikon D850 or one of its siblings. Just double check if you're on JPEG+RAW, put it on aperture priority with Auto ISO (both always visible on the top display so you can't miss it) and you're good to go. 🍻
