Mostly worse at low light and not even due to video quality when still, the problem is panning and movement. Apple has the least jitters and the most stable output. They have the smallest crop yet the most stable shot somehow.

At least all the tech sites and reviewers who mentioned it are saying that the pro models are using jn5 and the standard x500 is still using the jn1 e.g. Xiaobai stated it in his review. Vivo didn't publish the sensor info on their website though so hard to check officially

"Perhaps the biggest new technical video features are 17 EV TrueDynamic Log Videos, 10-bit 4:2:2, ACES support, official DaVinci Resolve color transformation and 4K@120fps 10-bit Log direct output"
Great. This means you can natively convert the colour space/gamut from Vivo's own into something that is more commonly used (e.g. Sony's S-Gumut3.Cine/S-Log3), therefore any LUT/other workflows you've created for your existing camera would most likely work without a lot of issues. Of course, this doesn't prevent you from grading LOG videos shot by phones from other brands in DaVinci, but you would need to apply a multi-step colour space transform using specific DCTL files provided by the respective manufacturers to even start grading. DJI already showed us how a LOFIC sensor is a game changer for video editing so this kind of partnership is pretty exciting.
I hope more manufacturers will follow the same suit and start partnering with video editing software like this. Sony and Apple never had to do this since Blackmagic supported their LOG formats (S-Log3 and Apple LOG) for quite some time already.

but in low li... moreIf you pixel peep that much and need the resolution just actually buy a smaller ILC camera . You will get far better pictures.
Images sent via messaging apps directly are dumbed down anyway. Even if you download with no loss via software or cable then upload without loss then most people looking at them are using small screens so don't get the benefit.
Phone cameras are still very much convenience cameras for images that do the job, the quick text rather than a long email.
The issue is they are still one area that brands can market on as making a difference.

Zuzuz, 22 Sep 2026From the early tests done against the newest Apple 18 serie... morealso, vivo being better isnt really a flex? they were better than apple since the iphone 13 in the rear cams but the videography is 1 or 2 generations behind when using the Pro phones, only the Ultras are equivalent.
I dont get why you're so defensive, i cant even criticise without getting "um apple is worse here xir". They can be better but they intentionally make it worse, im going to complain about it. The jump between generations is low in camera quality but prices go up, neither speakers nor haptics get dramatic improvements and they cheap out on the display, why should i praise them?
The X200 Pro by itself was the best cameraphone overall and had the best battery life so the speaker and haptics shortcomings could've been forgiven. The gap between ultras and pros has only grown further with each generation.

Zuzuz, 22 Sep 2026From the early tests done against the newest Apple 18 serie... morein daytime i prefer the vivo half the time
but in low light or hdr situations the vivo's jn1 is TRASH. The difference between jn1 and jn5 is like a 1/2" vs 1/3" sensor. They cheaped out and they dont process it as well as apple either. My X200 Ultra at night or middling lighting is not that good, too noisy. You cant process the noise away without scrubbing out details or putting in AI details. The X500 Pro already has horrendously AI-ified details on faces. Against the Ultras it'd be like night and day even with the same sensor.
