The A20 soc (18 Pro) is a significant upgrade (A19 soc 17 Pro), memory bus width upped to 96 bit from 64 bit resulting in a theoretical bandwidth of 115.2 GB/s (+50%). 15% faster performance core, one extra gpu core and it doubles the amount of neural engine cores to 32. "AI" ... But also previous year the snapdragon 8 elite gen 5 processor was as fast as the then new bionic A19 soc. Until then Apple was a generation ahead. When it comes to gpu's you can say that Qualcomm is a generation ahead.

People simply... moreExtremely Accurate assessment... Worst they'll come up with is "ads", which aren't really present on Xiaomi flagships.
Even if present on their budget and midrange phones, they can be easily disabled, just like the "ads" on iOS.
But no one will mention ads on iOS. or call the hundreds of Samsung's own apps as bloatware. It's only a problem if it exists on Chinese brands.
Atleast, on Android, one can get rid of ads using systemwide adblocker (not the adblocker in your web browser), but no such provision exists on iOS.

The iPhone 17 Pro is surely the most value for money Apple smartphone right now, hence the recommendations.
But the reality is that It's not really that good, once you take into consideration and compare it to other compact Android flagships. Infact, it gets exposed and lacks in multiple areas.
I'm not a compact flagship guy (prefer larger phones), but If I had to choose a compact flagship right now... It would be the Xiaomi 17 or the Vivo X300. No one in their right minds should consider the Pixel unless you are one of those people stuck in North America. The S26 also misses out in key areas and therefore wouldn't make it into my shortlist.

Here in India, it was launched at Rs.89,990 (€850) for the 12/512gb variant.
It dropped as low as Rs.59,990 (€565) during the deal season last week. Was out of stock in half a day.
Now, available again at launch price.
The above deal even at launch price is way better than buying the IPhone 17 Pro at €940 for the 256gb variant.

Here's what Gsmarena has to say about the Xiaomi 17 in their review:

Also, if you look closely, feature-rich HyperOS is listed under the "Pros" section.
So cut down your narrative of making look HyperOS bad.
It's always people saying HyperOS is bad, but never outlining their dealbreakers.
These same people will happily overlook how bug-ridden iOS has been in the past 2 years.

It's the iPhone that can't compete with the Xiaomi or Vivo in the compact category. The iPhone lags behind both in hardware and software.
I doubt you have even scratched the surface when it comes to Android.

-100W wired and 50W wireless charging
Yes, biggest downside is HyperOS, which is one of the least favorite android skins in general.
The complete opposite of Galaxy S26, which has way worse hardware, but better software experience and support.

As an Android user from day 1 it pains me to say that the iPhone 17 pro and 18 pro are by far the best small(ish) phones you can buy.
I dont like the restrictive OS. I dont like the price. But there simply is no alternative.
PS
1. No the Pixel 11 pro and its horrible SOC cant compete.
2. No the Vivo X300 and other small(ish) Chinese phones with their smaller main sensors, Mediatek SOC and worse software cant compete either.
