Apple iPhone 18 Pro vs. iPhone 17 Pro

The old versus the new. Will the price hike affect your decision?

harlekkin, 22 Oct 2026iPhone isn't a status symbol in the western world. It shouldn't be considered a status symbol anywhere for that matter. Anyone can buy an expensive phone, it's not some luxury/sports car that is genuinely out of reach for most people.

      >>> It's the top brand in my country (a country of 1.4B people). IPhones sell a lot too but the only people buying them are logo/status obsessed people like you who assume expensive = better.

"or an actual high-end phone that's been properly designed from start to finish"

      >>> It is not properly designed, otherwise it wouldn't have so many shortcomings or bugs that we have seen in the past couple of years. Remember how Apple Siri literally needed the help of Gemini underneath to become competitive? Properly designed my foot.

"and has proper customer support and global warranty. I mean, come on."

      >> In my country, Samsung and Apple both have average customer service despite their overpriced phones.
Vivo and Oppo have the best service centre experience.

Stop hating on Chinese brands. Wouldn't touch iPhone with a 10 foot pole again, even if offered for free

Fabiana, 21 Oct 2026I too saw the reports of discoloration online but not a sin... moreThe 18 series especially the burgundy variant is reporting discoloration in the first few weeks. As usual, this is the below average quality control expected from Apple over the years.

afronoia, 19 Oct 2026Where's the comparison of the discoloration?I too saw the reports of discoloration online but not a single time live. This said mine is fine after 1 year of use without a case.

1TB and 2TB versions with their QLC NVMe should be taken as unusable. If one needs that much storage perhaps the 17 pros should be considered, at least in case they get discounted.

This said the 2nm chipset set the bar above the typical yearly increments, could be a viable investment for those with much older variants.

[deleted post]If battery life isn't really that important, why did you choose to use it against iPhone in your argument? You still can't do maths and just endless excuses you Droid. Pure specs on paper mean nothing to anyone if they don't deliver value in real life. You cannot physically tell the difference between 560ppi and 460ppi yet it eats your battery. Larger battery, larger phone, more heat.

iPhone 17 and 18 Pro Max both come in at 18 and over 19 hours respectively, with the Vivo Ultra less than 16 hours. Is the 560ppi screen and extra 2 cores worth that?

If you want to give Apple crap for battery capacity, do your homework or shut up. You'll be charging that Vivo long before the iPhone.

So for about 100USD cheaper, you can get a no-name brand with slightly higher specs, or an actual high-end phone that's been properly designed from start to finish and has proper customer support and global warranty. I mean, come on.

Vivo's X300 Ultra's battery is 65% LARGER than iPhone 17 Pro, but lasts ONLY 2.4% longer. (Vivo X300 is 50% larger and lasts 14% longer).

Xiaomi's 17 Ultra's battery is also 50% LARGER and lasts just 24% longer than the iPhone.
Samsung S26 Ultra - 25% larger battery, just 6.5% longer battery life.

iPhone begging?! No mate, iPhone is the gold standard, sit down.

                    >>> never had a problem in daily use anywhere in my years of using Android. All the compromises started when I switched to iOS. So I returned back to Android in a few months.

It's not my problem that your Apple devices work well only within it's own ecosystem and fails miserably with any other ecosystem.

I do use the back-gesture on Android now that you mention it, but on iOS I've never been aware of needing it. I guess what I do on iOS a LOT is swipe up from the bottom which takes me back to the home screen, or swipe up and right to get to the App Drawer to flip between apps or close them. You can swipe left-to-right from the edge of the screen for "back", like in the browser when you literally want to go back a page.

Im soooooo tired of humonguous bricks in my hands and pockets. So tired of apps nos scaling on foldables and the screen protector bubbling. So tired od the red blotch and bad viewing angles on my S26 ultra. So tired of the adds, random Chinese words, bad translation and horrible iOS copycat behaviour on Chinese phones.

Went with an iPhone 17 pro and couldnt be happier (minus the lack of a universal back gesture). Everything just works and the video recording is leagues ahove everyone else.

If Samsung upgrades their cameras for the S27 Pro I might go back. Otherwise Im not switching.

Anonymous, 18 Oct 2026Vivo X300 is one of the best compact flagships from last ye... moreYou're comparing two completely different architectures against one another. iOS and Apple Silicon will ALWAYS outperform Android in efficiency, if not in raw performance. Apple creates both the hardware and software, and keeps tight controls on both meaning that developers have super clear standards to work with on top of a limited device palette.

i0S.- Never.- Again., 18 Oct 2026These guys just blindly repeat what these content creators ... moreOut of the hundreds if not thousands of Android devices, yes, you'll find better hardware than iPhone. But they are still Android, which is not iOS. You cannot compare the two, ever.

iOS and Apple Hardware are a match, as close to perfect as possible. Android is anyone's business. Some skins are better than others but iOS is simply a superior user experience, and I do use both iOS and Android 16 on a regular basis. No iOS user would ever switch for hardware alone.

Where Android lacks isn't in the "big" features, but the overall end-to-end nuances that people use on a daily basis. It's absolutely usable, but often just frustrating when you're used to seamless integration with iOS and Mac. I'd never give up either simply because I can't find anything that works as well as this combination.
