AI is pushing cloud to the center of business, but investment is lagging behind. NTT DATA’s report, based on a survey of more than 2,300 senior decision-makers across 33 countries, finds that 99% say AI is increasing demand for cloud, yet 88% admit current investment levels are putting AI initiatives at risk. Despite years of adoption, only 14% of organizations are fully realizing cloud’s value, highlighting a clear gap between ambition and execution. When NTT introduced its home-grown large language model "tsuzumi" in late 2023, you could say that the philosophy behind it felt slightly... counter-intuitive? When it comes to generative AI, while most of the tech world was thinking about "bigger is better," NTT looked at things differently. Instead of building a huge, all-knowing model and then trying to find ways of using it, they thought about it from the other way around. NTT DATA successfully tested its “AI Consumers” system with Kao’s makeup brand to simulate customer behavior and generate personas for product development. By combining NTT DATA's marketing AI agent service with Kao's existing consumer data, the approach matched traditional research insights but dramatically reduced research time from about 1.5 months to just half a day. It also cut costs and workload by automating tasks like recruiting respondents and conducting surveys.
