Performance-Based Façade Design (PBFD) returns to Venice this September, bringing the façade community together for two days of high-level discussion on durability, serviceability, and real performance in use. As media partner, Facade Today will be there to highlight what it means for practice. Our latest article takes a closer look at the event: https://lnkd.in/eEw2kiw3 Invited by Angela Mejorin, the keynote line-up sets the tone: Silvia Prandelli – Senior Principal at Populous – leads the Milan office, balancing architectural identity with lifecycle performance. Astrid Piber – Partner at UNS – connects façade performance with questions of density and future-proof city making. Balázs Bognár – Partner and Executive Vice President at KENGO KUMA & ASSOCIATES – will explore how materiality and culture shape contemporary façades. Francesca Vagliani – Co‑Head of Development Italy at Covivio – brings a developer’s view on durability and long-term performance, including deep refurbishment versus new-build. Andrei Koshelev AIA SIA – Real Estate Management at ETH Zurich – will focus on façade performance in science and education buildings, and other demanding programmes. Finally, MASSIMO C. – Founder of the Permasteelisa Group – will reflect on how industrial innovation shaped the modern façade industry and what durability means at that scale today. Together, they are joined by a strong international line-up of 25 speakers from practice, industry, and research, who will deepen the conversation through case studies, technical sessions, and workshop contributions. The seminar and workshop are led by two recognised figures in façade engineering and building performance, giving the event unusual technical depth: Mikkel K. Kragh (Associate Director, Arup) and Daniel J. Lemieux, FAIA NCARB RIBA MRICS FASTM (Director and Principal, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.). A central feature of PBFD 2026 is its close connection to standards and codification, where ASTM’s role becomes especially significant. As chair of ASTM International Committee E06 on Performance of Buildings, Daniel J. Lemieux links the event directly to one of the most influential standardisation bodies in the field. Beyond the stage, PBFD 2026 offers a high-level audience from engineering offices, architectural practices, manufacturers, and research institutions. The kind of focused networking that is rare in such a specialised field. Early bird registration rates are now available.
