Most enterprise APIs are designed for deterministic consumption—not for agentic patterns where AI systems dynamically plan and execute sequences of calls. This creates risks such as: • Uncontrolled orchestration flows • Lack of governance and auditability • Excessive or unintended data access • Increased load and system instability By enforcing mediation through SAP BTP, SAP is effectively 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. This enables: • Policy enforcement and throttling • Observability and traceability • Secure A2A communication patterns • Context-aware orchestration In my view, this is a direction the industry will follow. The Template contains request information, requester’s Information, comment to all approvers, multiple user defined approval levels, with a minimum of one mandatory approval level and document upload functionality. Upon creating a request, user specifies the step names, approver name, watcher email(optional), due date and comment for approver (optional) for each defined approval step. Moreover, requestor uploads one or more attachments for further review by approver(s) in their ‘My Inbox’ application. The following steps are included as a part of Documents Centric Approvals Process: 1. A business user (requester) navigates to the Documents Centric Approvals Process UI application in SAP Work Zone, standard edition 2. The requester then fills out the relevant request details, uploads one or more documents & invites approver(s)/watcher(s) for the approval process.  3. Approver(s) & watcher(s) are notified via email about the new request. 4. Approver accesses their SAP Build Process Automation ‘My Inbox’ application to view the approval task, review the documents and choose one of the following decisions after entering an optional comment to the requester: 4. a. Approve: Upon selecting the “Approve” button, the requester (and Watcher if specified) is notified via email about approval of the request by the current approver. If multiple approvers exist, an approval task is created for the next approver along with email notification and the process continues in a loop till the last approver is reached. 4. b. 🎬 Episode 25 → “The IDoc Failure That Stopped Billing” 🔌 ⚠️ Billing created in SAP… but external system never received it. The process looked seamless. ✔ Sales order created ✔ Delivery completed ✔ Billing document generated (VF01) ✅ But when the downstream system checked… 💥 No data received. No invoice processed externally. “Why didn’t the invoice reach the external system?” That was the escalation during UAT. And honestly… 👉 This is where many consultants stop at “check output” and miss the bigger picture. ⚠️ The Situation Billing was completed successfully in SAP. Everything looked correct: ✔ Accounting document posted ✔ Output triggered (EDI / IDoc) ✔ No visible errors in billing But: ❌ External system didn’t receive invoice ❌ IDoc stuck or failed ❌ Integration team raised a blocker 🔎 The Investigation Beginners check billing logs. But experienced consultants check: 👉 IDoc & Integration Flow So I analyzed: ✔ IDoc status (WE02 / WE05) ✔ Output type configuration (EDI) ✔ Partner profile (WE20) ✔ Port configuration (WE21) ✔ Message control / Output determination ✔ RFC / Middleware connectivity And that’s where the real issue surfaced. 🧠 The Root Cause SAP did NOT fail randomly. 👉 The IDoc failed during processing.
