📊 Talent Insights H1FY26 — Key Trends Shaping India’s Tech Talent Landscape 1️⃣ Talent Pool Outlook - Tech Headcount Flat, GCCs Powering Growth India’s tech workforce is expected to stagnate at ~5.8M in FY26, but GCCs remain the growth engine, adding 1.3–1.5 lakh net employees this year alone. Fresher hiring hits a five-year low (1.6–1.8 lakh) as tech services recalibrate. GCC ecosystem expanding to ~1800+ centres, poised to touch $85–90B in value and employ 2–2.5M. 2️⃣ Headcount Addition - Hiring Rebounds in Q2 Q2 marked a decisive rebound with 18,149 net additions (ex-TCS), led by Infosys. Infosys: +8,203 hires supported by a robust deal pipeline Wipro, HCLTech, TechM: hiring selectively for AI and next-gen roles TCS: steep cuts due to restructuring for margin protection Persistent & LTIM: non-linear growth driven by productivity and utilization enhancements Hiring is returning - but in a much more skills-targeted, efficiency-led manner. 3️⃣ Sales & Support Headcount- Firms Optimise for Efficiency Most IT majors have trimmed their Sales & Support headcount share by 1.5%–5%. Tech Mahindra saw the sharpest drop (-5.36%), aligned with its margin recovery plan Persistent kept ratios stable, signalling sustained GTM investments to fuel growth 4️⃣ Attrition Trends - Slight Uptick but Still Below Historical Norms Attrition has inched up in H1FY26 but remains below the 16–17% historical average for Indian IT. Talent flight is predominantly from top performers, who are moving to faster-growing sectors: GCCs, startups, and industry roles offering better growth and compensation. Most firms are now stabilised between 13–15%. 5️⃣ Utilisation - Strong Gains for Mphasis & Persistent Mphasis (+12%) and Persistent (+3.8%) led utilization improvements, signalling strong deployment and execution. Infosys & Tech Mahindra saw dips, reflecting higher bench and slower demand cycles Overall, utilisation trends mirror the demand moderation, reskilling cycles, and AI-led productivity pivots underway. Five Mid-FY Insights: How India’s Hiring Landscape Is Evolving in FY 2025–26 As we cross the midpoint of FY 2025–26, data from hundreds of roles, candidates, and client mandates at Keytaal Worldwide reveal clear hiring shifts across industries. Here’s what our numbers — and conversations — are telling us: 1.      Quality over quantity -         7 in 10 clients have moved from volume-based to precision-based hiring models. Given AI becoming the norm everywhere, the need arises for people who can deliver using AI driven agents and more importantly, deliver more than their peers. 2.      Skills over degrees -         Employers increasingly prefer demonstrable, project-based experience over conventional degree-based screening. The quality of your projects matter more than the quantity of your projects. Deep expertise weighs in. 3.      Candidate experiences during the interview process is a key differentiator -         Roughly 45% of declined offers stemmed from communication gaps or poor engagement during the notice period. -         Companies with structured feedback loops, transparent processes and productive out-of-office conversations with potential team members, see 2x better offer-acceptance rates. 4.      Tech & AI-enabled ATS’ at scale -         Active mandates now use AI-assisted ATS platforms or workflow automation. If your CV is not ATS friendly, the chances of it getting shortlisted drop by 90%. -         Recruiters are shifting focus from process execution to relationship and retention strategy. 5.      Sectoral momentum – from emerging tech to time tested industry -         Hiring demand has grown strongest in green energy (+35%), EVs (+28%), healthtech (+26%), real estate & retail (+22%), and semiconductors (+18%). -         In semiconductors, we’ve seen a 2x rise in demand for VLSI, embedded systems, and chip design roles — as India’s manufacturing and design ecosystem matures. The takeaway: The mid-year data points to a hiring ecosystem that’s skills-first, tech-enabled, and experience-driven.
