Starting 16 June 2025, UPI transactions in India are expected to become significantly faster, with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) directing banks and payment apps to reduce response times by half, from 30 seconds to 15 seconds. The move aims to improve the efficiency and reliability of the digital payments system, which processes millions of transactions daily, by streamlining both debit and credit operations. Response time refers to the total duration a transaction takes, from being initiated to the final status confirmation. Under the new protocol, not only will transactions complete faster, but failed or mistaken payments will also see swifter reversals. When I’m asked to design or upgrade an operating cadence, the starting point is always decisions, not calendar slots. The goal is to understand which decisions truly move the business and then build rituals around those, instead of filling people’s time with status meetings. For a high‑growth or turnaround environment, that focus is what keeps execution sharp instead of reactive. The first step is to map decisions by frequency. Weekly decisions usually cover near‑term flow: which customers, projects or locations need attention, which bottlenecks to unblock, and what trades to make in capacity or inventory. Monthly decisions are more structural—network changes, hiring approvals, budget shifts, or major process tweaks. Quarterly decisions sit at the strategy layer: entering new markets, launching new product lines, or re‑shaping the operating model to hit the next phase of scale. Once those decisions are clear, the next question is who must be in the “room” for each and who only needs visibility. For example, a weekly fulfilment review in an e‑commerce or healthcare context might require operations, planning, and customer support leaders, while finance just needs a summary. In a fintech yard/asset network, a monthly forum might bring together collections, risk, operations, and sales, but only a concise outcome note goes to CXO level. This prevents senior people from being dragged into every discussion while still keeping them informed where it matters. The third piece is pre‑work. Sessions should be about decisions, not discovery, so pre‑reads and data cuts are non‑negotiable. In practice, that can look like a standardised one‑pager or dashboard covering the last period’s performance, key variances vs plan, and 2–3 proposed actions for each major issue. In a logistics turnaround, that might be a simple view showing volume, cost per shipment, service levels, and suggested network changes; in a yard or repo context, it could be recovery rates, asset ageing, and proposed actions on underperforming locations. From there, the operating cadence almost designs itself: a short daily or thrice‑weekly stand‑up for urgent flow issues; weekly pipeline and operations reviews for decisions on capacity, SLAs, and priorities; a monthly S&OP/IBP‑style forum to align demand, supply, and financial impact; and quarterly retrospectives and planning sessions to adjust the overall playbook. When this is in place, everyone knows when issues will be discussed, where to bring data, and who decides—which dramatically reduces ad‑hoc chaos, side‑channel debates, and the sense that “nothing ever gets closed.” What are your thoughts on this.
