It's time to talk about potential, performance, and the rockstars on my team. I currently lead a technical team that is a double-digit size, and I am proud to say that a solid 60% majority of our members are brilliant women. What's truly extraordinary about this group is their personal context: a significant number are married and balancing the demanding role of a primary caregiver, often with children who are just 1-2 years old, or even infants. The True Definition of Dedication The demands on our team are immense. We navigate a challenging environment with a variety of complex technologies, constant roadblocks, and an intensely short runway for delivery. By all traditional metrics, this environment is built to be stressful. Yet, despite managing a full second shift of family, childcare, and domestic responsibilities—a commitment that never truly ends—these women are performing at a next-level caliber. They are the driving force, the rockstars who consistently help us not just meet, but exceed expectations. They exemplify what it means to be committed under pressure. Their resilience and focus are, quite frankly, an inspiration to the entire organization. The Power of Equal Opportunity This experience is a profound real-world case study. It proves that the success we’re achieving isn't about gender; it’s about talent, drive, and creating the right environment. When truly equal opportunities are provided to people—when judgment based on gender, marital status, or life stage is eliminated—the returns are exponential. It fundamentally changes the way we see performance and the limitless capability of a diverse workforce. Talent is universal, but opportunity is not. We have to be intentional about creating the latter. In 1982, during the Asian Games in Delhi, I ordered the towing of a car illegally parked near the stadium. It belonged to the Prime Minister's convoy. No one had done it before. Everyone said I'd face consequences. I did it anyway - because the law was the law. For everyone. That day, I didn't just enforce traffic rules. I reinforced something far more important: that integrity is the only currency a leader can truly bank on. When I walked into Tihar Jail in 1993 as Inspector General of Prisons, I didn't just see a prison. I saw 10,000 broken lives waiting for someone to believe in their potential. We introduced education. Vipassana meditation. Vocational training. De-addiction programs. Tihar didn't just reform — it transformed. The lesson? A leader's job is not to manage people. It is to unlock them. Over 35 years of policing taught me three things about real leadership: ✅ Fearlessness - Stand alone when you must. The right decision rarely comes with applause. ✅ Empathy with authority - Discipline without humanity is just domination. Real power rehabilitates. ✅ Purpose over position - I wasn't in policing for the rank. I was there to serve. That distinction changes everything. Whether you lead a team of 5 or a force of 50,000 - your authority lasts only as long as your integrity does. The uniform fades. The impact doesn't. I am grateful for everything IBM has given me and everything I have given IBM. I gave it all. I made my clients successful and I made life long friends along the way. I can't even think of mentioning names, because I had so many people that inspired me and made me learn and become the professional I am today. I felt it was time to fly. IBM has been my identity throughout this entire journey, making this both an emotional and a memorable milestone for me. Today, as I pack away the badges, notebooks, event shirts, coffee mugs, and countless memories collected over more than two decades, I realize these are far more than souvenirs. Each one represents a transformation, a breakthrough, a successful go-live, a client partnership, a shared achievement, a milestone, a friendship, and above all, a TEAM that made the journey truly special. From transformation programs to marathons to cricket games, this journey has been about endurance, teamwork, resilience, and continuously pushing forward. I feel deeply grateful for the opportunities IBM gave me to learn, grow, lead, and collaborate with some truly amazing people across the globe. A heartfelt thank you to the clients and partners who trusted, collaborated, and gave me the opportunity to be part of their transformation journeys over the years. Your belief in me inspired me to solve complex challenges, deliver meaningful transformations, and continuously raise the bar. Many of these professional relationships evolved into lasting friendships that I will always cherish.
