From 15 Jan 2026, export incentives now apply to postal shipments too. If you are an exporter using India Post / Foreign Post Office / Dak Niryat Kendra, this update is for you. CBIC has extended benefits under: - Duty Drawback - RoDTEP - RoSCTL to postal exports in electronic form. That one change fixes a silent disadvantage MSME exporters have lived with for years. What was broken till now: Postal exports were perfect for small parcels and cross-border e-commerce. Postal exports were also the easiest route for first-time exporters in non-metro cities. But postal exports often did not get the same incentive access as other export channels. So you paid the “small parcel tax” twice. You paid higher logistics cost per unit. You also lost competitiveness because incentives could not be claimed cleanly. What changes for MSMEs and D2C exporters; This update makes the postal route commercially stronger. This update helps exporters who ship lightweight SKUs with tight margins. This update supports exporters from smaller towns who rely on India Post’s network. For many MSMEs, incentives decide whether exports stay a side hustle or become a stable revenue line. What you should do next (so this turns into money) This benefit will go to exporters who operationalize it early. This benefit will also get missed by exporters who keep documentation messy. Here is the readiness checklist: 1/ Register on ICEGATE 2/ Add and validate your bank account on ICEGATE 3/ File postal export declarations like PBE-III / PBE-IV through the DNK portal 4/ Upload required documents through e-Sanchit / ICEGATE where applicable 5/ Match your product mapping and invoice details so claims do not get rejected later The real takeaway: This is not a feel-good policy update. This is margin support for exporters who ship small parcels. If you export through postal mode, this is the right week to clean your process. If you delay, you will still export. You will simply export without collecting what you are eligible for. Are you currently exporting through India Post or courier?
