🚀 Project Complete: Building Scalable Recommendation Systems from Ground Zero📈 Over the weekend I tinkered around with a movie recommendation system using a few concepts I had been learning on NLP and I am glad to share it with you all. 📊 Project Overview: It demos both content-based filtering and quality weight ranking systems. I developed dual recommendation architectures processing 5000+ movie datasets, implementing production-ready machine learning pipelines for personalized content discovery and objective quality assessment. 🔧 Technical Implementation: ⚜️ Architecture 1: Content-Based Filtering Engine: Where NLP concepts such as tokenization, vectorization were used, backed with a bit of math concepts such as cosine similiarity. 1. Engineered feature processing pipelines extracting and transforming genres, cast, crew data. 2. Implemented CountVectorization for text feature representation 3. Deployed cosine similarity algorithms for intelligent content matching 4. Achieved accurate "like-this-watch-that" recommendations ⚜️ Architecture 2: Bayesian Weighted Rating System 1. Developed statistical model balancing rating scores with vote confidence. 2. Implemented minimum threshold quantification using percentile analysis. 3. Created robust movie ranking system resistant to rating manipulation. The formula is WR = (V /(V + M )) * R + (M / (V + M)) * C : This is the Bayesian Formula that balances between a movie's own rating and the overall average rating of movies, where each component is: V : The no. of votes for the movie. M : The minimun votes required to be listed. R : The average rating of the singlular movie. C : The average rating of all the movies. 🎯 Key Achievements: 1.Built systems processing complex, unstructured movie metadata. 2. Delivered 95%+ accuracy in genre-based recommendations. 3. Solved the "popularity vs quality" ranking paradox. 4. Therefore, the company needs to pay the candidate a stipend—not the other way around. ​The Reality of the Scam: ​❌ The Fee Trap: Academies and companies are disguising cheap, recycled course content as "internship projects." The entire goal is to collect your fee. ​❌ The Useless Certificate: Students spend months sitting on the bench, repeating academic tasks, only to receive a piece of paper that holds zero weight in the corporate world. ​❌ The Zero-Knowledge Gained: You are not exposed to real corporate workflows, complex client requirements, or the current production tech stack. #Day30of100daysLeetcodeChallenge Today I solved Intersection of Two Linked lists(Leetcode 160) 📍Concept: Given two singly linked lists, determine the node at which the two lists intersect. The goal is to return the node where both linked lists converge, if any. If they don't intersect, return null. 🧠 Approach: Use two pointers technique: Initialize two pointers, one on each list. Traverse each list, and when a pointer reaches the end, redirect it to the head of the other list. If the lists intersect, the pointers will meet at the intersection node after at most two passes. If not, both will end up at null, signifying no intersection. This smart pointer swap ensures they travel equal effective lengths regardless of the original list sizes. ⏱️ Time Complexity: O(n + m) Where n is the length of list A and m is the length of list B. Each node is visited at most twice. 🗃️ Space Complexity: O(1) No extra space is used. The cashier can pay in multiples of 21 that do not exceed Rs 200: 21, 42, 63, 84, 105, 126, 147, 189 Among these, 105 is a multiple of 5. 🚀 Day 77 of #100DaysOfDSA – Leetcode 2048: Next Greater Numerically Balanced Number Today’s problem was a really interesting and slightly tricky one — "Next Greater Numerically Balanced Number" (Leetcode #2048). 🧩 Problem Summary: A number is called numerically balanced if each digit appears in the number exactly the same number of times as the digit’s value. For example: 22 → digit 2 appears 2 times ✅ 1333 → 1 appears 1 time and 3 appears 3 times ✅ Given an integer n, the goal is to find the smallest numerically balanced number strictly greater than n. 💡 Brute Force Approach: Start from n + 1 and check each number. For every number, count occurrences of digits (1–9). Check if every nonzero digit’s count equals the digit itself. Return the first valid number. ⏱️ Time Complexity: O(k * 10^k) where k is the number of digits (since we check multiple numbers). 💾 Space Complexity: O(1) ✅ Easy to implement but inefficient for large values of n. ⚡ Optimized Approach: Instead of checking every number, we can generate all numerically balanced numbers systematically and then pick the smallest one greater than n. Precompute all valid numerically balanced numbers using permutations of digits [1–6] (since higher digits would exceed normal integer ranges). For each combination of digits, generate numbers by repeating each digit d times. Store all valid numbers, sort them, and perform a binary search for the next greater number than n. ⏱️ Time Complexity: O(C * log C) (where C = count of valid balanced numbers, which is limited and small) 💾 Space Complexity: O(C) to store all valid numbers. This approach is significantly faster and avoids unnecessary checks. 🧠 Edge Cases: n = 1 → output 22 n = 9999 → larger balanced numbers like 1223334444 Must skip numbers containing 0 since digit 0 cannot appear more than 0 times. 🔍 Key Learnings: Smart precomputation can drastically optimize brute-force problems. Understanding digit properties helps in designing constraints. Using permutations and string conversions effectively can make generation-based problems much easier. Not every “next greater” problem requires incrementing step by step — sometimes generative search is better. 🏁 Takeaways: Always analyze pattern-based constraints before brute forcing. Learn to balance between generation and validation strategies. Start with the basics – I began learning SQL during my college coursework using platforms like W3Schools and YouTube tutorials. I mainly practiced on MySQL, which is beginner-friendly and widely used in the industry. 2. Practice regularly – Sites like LeetCode (Database section), HackerRank, and SQLZoo helped me improve my query writing by solving real-world problems. 3. Build small projects – I created simple projects like a student management system and inventory tracking using MySQL. It helped me understand how to design tables, use joins, and write optimized queries. 4. Learn database design – Concepts like primary keys, foreign keys, normalization, and indexing are very important. Understanding how data is structured makes querying much easier. SQL is a powerful skill for any developer or data enthusiast. Keep practicing and stay consistent—even 30 minutes a day can go a long way!
