The British Chamber of Commerce recently convened a panel discussion on “India: How to Take Advantage of the Free Trade Agreement.” Moderated by FICCI, the session brought together a distinguished lineup of experts, offering a comprehensive 360-degree perspective on the evolving India-UK trade corridor. With the UK–India Free Trade Agreement now nearing implementation, the discussion focused on the practical aspects of execution and how businesses can meaningfully leverage emerging opportunities. In his remarks, H.E Vikram K. Doraiswamy, High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom, highlighted India’s rapid digital transformation, positioning it as an indispensable destination for UK businesses. He underscored the importance of moving beyond transactional trade towards building deep, enduring partnerships. The panel also featured Aileen Keyes, Director, International Tax & Trade at Diageo, and Iain Walker, Industry Engagement Director at GS1 UK, who shared valuable insights on how businesses can effectively maximise the benefits of the FTA. The message was clear: the structural bridge is now open. As India continues to emerge as one of the world’s most dynamic growth engines, it represents a future market that global businesses cannot afford to overlook. At its core, the FTA is not just about trade- it is about fostering long-term partnerships that enable both nations to grow and prosper together.

India’s energy story is inseparable from its growth trajectory. The government has made decisive strides—achieving 250 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity, reaching 50% renewable power generation five years ahead of target, advancing the National Green Hydrogen Mission, Shanti bill’s passage and scaling ethanol blending to 18–20%. In the short term, we must manage supply shocks through trade facilitation and alternative routes. The medium-term focus should be on expanding Strategic Petroleum Reserves and scaling domestic manufacturing of solar modules, batteries, and critical minerals. Long-term resilience hinges on accelerating domestic oil and gas exploration, expanding nuclear power, and building offshore wind, pumped hydro storage, advanced battery tech and green hydrogen capacity. This isn’t merely about reducing imports but about creating a resilient energy ecosystem for the future, writes FICCI Director General, Ms Jyoti Vij in Mint.

India’s manufacturing ecosystem is deeply embedded in global supply chains. From energy and fertilizers to electronics and chemicals, several sectors rely heavily on imported raw materials and intermediates. Recent geopolitical developments have reinforced the need for building long-term resilience through reduced import dependence. Supply chain resilience cannot be built through isolated interventions—it requires an integrated, forward-looking approach involving government, industry, and global partners, writes FICCI President, Mr Anant Goenka in The Hindu.
