Vanessa Bartram שיתף את זהWhen we evaluate a team’s ability to execute the vision of a #venture, we’re essentially evaluating how they will deal with #obstacles and roadblocks. Because they always come. Rewind started their CDR journey pursuing Marine Anoxic Carbon Storage, preserving biomass on the seafloor using natural anoxic conditions. The science was real. The potential was enormous. But the path to commercialization was no longer reasonable for a venture-backed company. So they pivoted. They took with them everything they had learned—the science, the MRV tech, the insights from Georgia and operational pathways, the relationships in the CDR industry— and produced a new methodology and verified carbon credits in record time. But that’s not all. As Eitan Brettler shared, the recent certification visit in Georgia had to happen despite a wartime reality. Through lockdowns, flight bans, and back country routes - they got it done. Israeli entrepreneurs have a spark that is hard to find elsewhere. And in early-stage VC, betting on the company essentially means betting on the #team. Everything else can, and probably will, change.
-
Vanessa Bartram שיתף את זהDo you ever dive in to the #accounting behind the #carbon credits you purchased? You should. What I love about shooting around registries, and especially that of Isometric is how you can get to the granular level of what's been accounted for. Diesel, staff travel, uncertainty... This is an example from Rewind's recent credit issuance in Georgia. More to come. Wild Assets

Vanessa Bartram שיתף את זהCongratulations to our portfolio company Rewind on the issuance of their first #carbon removal #credits. If you’ve been following the news around this, the issue of #speed keeps coming up. Submission → site visit → third-party verification → issued credits, all in 60 days. Why is this worth noting? Not because it was easy or simplistic (it’s not). Rewind is taking a wonderfully elegant approach to carbon removal: storing residual, locally and sustainably sourced, plant biomass in sealed underground mine chambers, where stable, anoxic conditions prevent decomposition and keep the carbon locked away for over 1,000 years. The biomass is residual. No dedicated growing. The storage environment already exists. No new builds or excavation. The science is clear, measurable, and verifiable. That combination is part of what makes Rewind so compelling, and also reflects the maturation of the CDR ecosystem. Multiple players working together, holding each other accountable, with systems and science to deliver results fast. For a venture-capital-driven carbon market to scale significantly, this speed is vital. We can’t wait 2 years for credits to be issued. It all needs to be streamlined. This is the proof it can be done. This first issuance covers 108.92 carbon removal credits from the Deep Mine Storage (DMS) Georgia project, submitted automatically via BlueLayer, independently verified by Normec Verifavia, and issued by Isometric. Congrats Ram, Eitan, Noa, and everyone involved. Now it is time to scale ↗️ ZORA Ventures

Vanessa Bartram שיתף את זהOur portfolio company, Amai Proteins, was just picked (again) as one of the Top 50 FoodTech companies in the world by SVG Ventures | THRIVE. THRIVE’s Top 50 selection has been running now for six years, produced after months of domain expert evaluation across the critical tenets of a successful scaleup: technology, capital profile, market traction, team capability, and scalability. Prior cohorts have included companies that later raised major capital, entered public markets, secured regulatory validation, and reached commercial scale. Amai is ticking all the boxes. Combining computational protein design and precision fermentation, the Amai team has created a remarkable sweetener, 3,000 times sweeter than sugar, that can help reduce more than 50% of sugar in manufactured food and beverages. Sugar is a serious public health, consumer, and food industry challenge, and creating a solution that is approved by regulators and works for manufacturers and consumers alike is not trivial. But there is also a broader story here. Four of this year's 50 companies are from Israel. Alongside Amai Proteins, TIPA® Compostable Packaging, Aleph Farms, and Wiliot were also selected. That is 8% of the cohort, second only to the U.S. For a small country, that innovation density is remarkable. It speaks to the depth of scientific talent, the strength of Israel’s research institutions, and the sheer entrepreneurship of its founders. Founders who see real gaps in the market, build real products to fill them, and turn that into real businesses serving global customers. Congratulations to the Amai team. We are proud to be part of the journey.

Vanessa Bartram פרסם/פרסמה את זהNot every #investment becomes a clear success. But if you don’t #learn from it, it’s almost certainly a failure. Two #lessons we’ve learned and keep close: First, if we invest in a company, we need a seat at the table. Board participation isn’t about control, it’s about responsibility. It keeps us engaged, allows us to support critical decisions, and helps prevent avoidable missteps. Second, we don’t invest alone. Not because conviction is lacking, but because strong companies benefit from aligned syndicates. Multiple committed investors increase resilience, extend runway when needed, and bring broader perspective to the table. What’s a lesson you keep close to heart?

Vanessa Bartram שיתף את זהWe talk a lot about ‘#diversifying the cap table’. But for Israeli #startups this means more than just #funding types. Israel is a limited market and in order to scale significantly, startups must go global. Just as founders need employees on the ground in their target markets, they also need investors there. In a recent conversation I had with Darren Clifford from Adapt [us] Capital, he shared his advice on the importance of building a deliberately balanced investor mix. In his view, this means populating the cap table with three distinct types of investors: 1️⃣ One locally anchored to support tactical needs. Things like talent acquisition, legal, and the day-to-day operations of a new startup. 2️⃣ Another rooted in your target market, but with a strategic perspective. They should be able to recognize patterns, identify trends, and understand politics to guide scale-ups. 3️⃣ And one global with deep sector expertise. For example, the leading water investor backing a water technology company. When we work with founders on funding strategy and co-investor selection, we are intentional about diversifying the cap table with abilities, networks, and skills that can actively drive growth. Because every seat counts. What’s your favorite investor archetype?

Vanessa Bartram שיתף את זהIf you’ve ever (or never) considered a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) to deploy impact capital, this is for you. A lot is changing. Last week on the JFN’s #Impact #Investing 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 series I was honored to feature the work of Andrew Schneiderman and Alan Brody, the impact investing team at the Jewish Federation Bay Area. They have built a ~$70 million impact portfolio with investments spanning #climate, financial inclusion, affordable housing, quality education, sustainable Ag, Israel, and more. Their model is what I consider ‘a next generation of DAF’ —designed to allow more people to make a bigger impact, across more opportunities. Pooling capital from multiple donors enables each to multiply the impact of their philanthropic dollars while also giving them access to interesting deals at much smaller ticket sizes. But their long-term vision for financing their community is even bigger. They aspire to develop a range of financial products to meet the diverse needs of recipient community organizations. Solutions like: • Bridge lending for organizations with government customers or long-term donor pledges; • Banking guarantees to leverage commercial loans; • Asset financing for upgrades (e.g. solar installation) that reduce an organization's long-term opex. If the traditional model was: Individual contributor → grant over time. The new model is: Pool contributors → invest / lend / structure capital → grow and redeploy capital again and again. A structured amplification and multiplication of each dollar. Hosting the Jewish Funders Network’s Impact Investing in Action series is always a humbling experience. It's a chance to spend time and get deep with some of my favorite people doing wonderfully inspiring work in impact investing. To catalyze impact investing in the Jewish world (and everywhere really) we need more operators like this. Ones that are able to take on the role of curating needs and investment solutions, designing financial tools and investment vehicles, performing due diligence, and syndicating deals. Andrew, Alan and team are trailblazers. Reducing friction and building the infrastructure so that other investors can confidently join. And we can all grow our dollars invested for good. If you want a warm intro, DM me.

No marketing department, no brand presence, no commercial infrastructure. Together with Ori Shaashua, we built it all from scratch, and turned a scientific vision into a globally recognized company. What followed was one of the most meaningful professional experiences of my life. I got to work on a problem that genuinely matters, represent a company I believed in on stages I never imagined, and build relationships with people across governments, indigenous communities, validation bodies and boardrooms from New Zealand to New York. The friendships I made along the way, across time zones and cultures, are something I'll carry forever. To Guy Shafran, Sapir Markus-Alford, Dotan Levy and Ori Shaashua, and to the entire incredible team at Gigablue, thank you for the trust, the adventure and the privilege of building something from nothing together. Everyone said it couldn't be done. No specialist will drive two hours north. There's no infrastructure. Not enough patients. Too complicated. I've heard every version of that argument. And I've spent the last months proving it wrong. I now hold every piece of the puzzle, medical, institutional, regional and private. Thank you to CTech for including me in the VC Survey 2026. These conversations matter because they reflect what the data is already telling us. The Israeli tech story in 2026 isn’t a rebrand, it’s a re-pricing. After several years of sustained uncertainty, what global LPs observed wasn’t hesitation, it was adaptation. Founders kept building. Companies kept selling. Liquidity didn’t disappear; it waited. 2025 closed with over $65B in announced M&A activity. That combination of resilience and liquidity has restored confidence and reinforced a familiar truth: ecosystems that survive prolonged pressure produce stronger founders and more durable companies. Israel’s advantage has never been abstract creativity alone. It’s the ability to innovate under constraint. We’re seeing this clearly now in AI-native enterprise infrastructure, frontier software, and systems built with sovereignty by default, cloud-agnostic, portable, and designed for regulated, mission-critical environments. Cybersecurity remains foundational, but the next export engine will be companies built from first principles around autonomous workflows and intelligent data foundations. Same story, different pricing. To read the full article, click here: https://lnkd.in/daDzRq_r

Is "proprietary tech" becoming a myth in the AI era? In venture, we’ve spent decades looking for the "technical moat." We looked for the secret sauce or the complex code that no one else could replicate. But in the age of GenAI, we’re witnessing a massive paradox: The more powerful the technology becomes, the less of a moat it provides. If a single developer can call an API and access more "intelligence" than a 50-person engineering team could build from scratch three years ago, then the code itself is no longer the winner-take-all asset. It is becoming a commodity. So, if the tech is accessible to everyone, what actually separates an empire from a "wrapper"? It’s what I call The Human Algorithm. In my latest article for Calcalist כלכליסט, I dive into why I’m betting on the rider over the horse: • Adaptability over Algorithms: In a market where models are "obsolete by noon," the ability of a founder to pivot without ego is more valuable than their initial codebase. • Judgment over Generative Power: As AI enters sensitive regulated fields, the winner won't be the one with the fastest output. It will be the one with the ethical compass and vision that users and regulators actually trust. • The Persistence of the "Unstoppable Will": As Sam Altman puts it, the most critical trait today isn't intellectual brilliance. It’s the resilience to navigate a map that is being redrawn every week. In a world where intelligence is abundant, human character is the rarest and most valuable resource. Unpopular opinion: Something good is happening in the local #biotech scene. In recent months, we’re experiencing headlines after headlines of investments and acquisitions being done in local companies or companies that originated in Israel. Different sectors (biopharma, medical devices, diagnostics, investment funds) Different stages (seed-acquisition). Different therapeutic areas (oncology, mental health, platforms, wearables. etc). In a period when the macro environment is still cautious, geopolitical noise is real, and biotech globally has been under pressure, Israeli-origin companies are quietly executing. Yes, we saw companies shutting down, layoffs, uncertainty, but for the long run, it's a restart. It cleans the room for new innovation. For hunger to do good, better. Maybe the ecosystem is maturing. Can We Make Pollination Predictable? Despite the challenging days around us, I’m glad to share an article that was published last week about BloomX in Bizportal by Hadas Bartal. Over the past years, we’ve been working on a very real challenge in agriculture - how to take a critical biological process like pollination, traditionally dependent on nature, and make it more precise, measurable, and manageable. Across the globe in Israel, Peru, Mexico and beyond, we’re seeing how this can create real value for growers and the food supply chain. In times like these, there’s something meaningful about continuing to build, move forward, and try to solve real-world problems. Grateful and Thankful for our team and partners along the way🙏 https://lnkd.in/dpKrgGQr

🧠💪 From sweat to science: Meet the Israeli startup turning everyday workouts into life-saving insights. What if we tell you that your sweat tells a lot about your physical and health state? Yopi Tech, founded by Hemi Re’em and Dr. Menachem Genut Ph.D, is redefining cardiovascular monitoring with a wearable device that does more than count steps. Their AI-powered armband analyzes sweat electrolytes in real time to measure oxygen consumption (VO₂), carbon dioxide emission (VCO₂), and other critical health metrics. A device offering far beyond what traditional fitness trackers offer. The idea was born after Re’em, an active and health-conscious individual, unexpectedly required triple bypass surgery. That wake-up call led to YOPI’s mission: to bridge the gap between fitness tech and real preventive healthcare. With mass production since early 2024 in southern Israel, Yopi Tech is bringing lab-grade metabolic monitoring to the masses and transforming how we train, recover, and stay ahead of heart health risks. #HealthTech #Wearables #IsraeliInnovation #CardiovascularHealth #FitnessTech #AI #PreventiveCare

Space is the most extreme environment for producing food and that is exactly why we are there. Through Aleph Zero we design food systems that can thrive where natural resources are scarce, temperatures change rapidly, and gravity itself is optional. If our cultivated steaks can be grown 420 km above Earth they can also be produced in arid and hot areas, dense urban centers, and regions hit hardest by climate change. The breakthroughs we develop for astronauts will help build more resilient food systems for everyone here on Earth. Honored that our work is featured in Wondrous Space at The Franklin Institute, an inspiring reminder that exploring the future of food in space also means securing the future of food at home.

Joining Kobi Eisenberg, Michal Tsur and Shlomo Touboul for the CEO Playbook panel at the NEXT2026 Summit was a valuable opportunity to share openly about what leadership requires in the current environment. Thank you to the organizers for an energizing day of conversation with founders, operators and investors who are shaping the next chapter of innovation. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆: 1) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲. Teams need a clear long term vision and an understanding of the end game. At the same time, the short term environment is uncertain and moving quickly, which demands a high level of flexibility and the ability to adjust ongoing priorities. Balancing clarity with adaptability is one of the hardest parts of leading a company in 2026. 2) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. I spoke about our decision at Aleph Farms to recalibrate at the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 as macro conditions shifted. Before 2022, scale was the first priority and profitability came second. During 2023 we reversed that order and focused on profitability as the foundation for long term growth. It was a difficult decision as it required restructuring the team and reallocating our resources, but one that strengthened the company and created a more resilient path forward. 3) 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀. Many teams do not spend enough time defining what their product truly is and who their real customer is. These are not trivial questions. The product is what someone pays for and the customer is the one who pays. In the medical device industry, for example, the product is not the device, it is the procedure, because the insurance company pays for it. In our space, we must ask what we are selling and who will pay for it. Is it the product, the experience, or even a lifestyle. Clarity on this point shapes every strategic decision. The conversations were honest, practical and grounded in the reality of building companies today. Thanks again and looking forward to continuing the dialogue as the ecosystem evolves. https://bit.ly/48VaCK6

What if one of the biggest #Industry4_0 challenges is still hiding in plain sight? Yesterday I attended the “Funding for Industry 4.0 Startups” event by S. Horowitz & IATI - Israel Advanced Technology Industries Association. It was great meeting founders, investors and industry leaders shaping the future of industrial innovation. While many discussions focused on AI, robotics and automation, one major industrial challenge remains largely unchanged: #Cleaning. Factories still lose huge amounts of time, water, chemicals and efficiency to traditional processes. At Kiinns we are building a #new_category: replacing cleaning with #robotics and #smart_materials. We believe cleaning should be reimagined. What industrial challenge do you think is still overdue for disruption? Share your thoughts in the comments.
