🏰 Behind the Design: Vault of the Milan Cathedral (Burgundy) Our Vault of the Milan Cathedral (Burgundy) design is inspired by an 1881 architectural drawing by Paolo Cesa Bianchi, honouring the extraordinary legacy of the Duomo di Milano – a pinnacle of Italian Gothic architecture. Construction of the cathedral began in 1386, and over the centuries it became a vibrant centre for creative exchange. Architects, spiritual leaders, and trade workers gathered to share ideas and inspiration, shaping a structure defined by intricate flying buttresses, elaborate religious sculpture, and remarkable artistic ambition. The Duomo stands today as both a place of faith and a testament to collaborative design across generations. Originally released in a classic blue and white palette, this design became so popular that it has now been reintroduced in a bold burgundy colourway. 🌹 Behind the Design: New York Rose Our New York Rose design draws inspiration from the opulence and splendour refinement of New York City during the Gilded Age (1870–1900) – a time when the city was alive with artistic ambition. Inspired by an 1898 binding of Prue & I by George William Curtis, this design was created in partnership with The New York Public Library. The original binding was produced by the Club Bindery, one of the leading publishing houses of the era, and features cascading floral garlands and richly gold embellishments that reflect the sophistication of late 19th-century bookbinding. Today, this historic volume is held in The New York Public Library, though it was once part of the personal collection of William Augustus Spencer, a wealthy bibliophile known for his passion for fine books. Its journey from private library to public institution adds yet another layer of history to this remarkable design.
