NEWS OF THE DAY: IndiGo names ex-British Airways boss and current IATA head Willie Walsh as CEO. Low-cost-carrier IndiGo has named the former British Airways boss and current director general of International Air Transport Association (IATA) as its new CEO. On March 31, 2026, IndiGo announced that following the departure of ex-CEO Pieter Elbers, industry heavyweight Willie Walsh would be taking over the role. In a letter to the National Stock Exchange of India from Indigo’s parent company InterGlobe Aviation, it said that the airline’s board of directors had approved the appointment Willie Walsh as the new CEO. Walsh is expected to bring his tenure at IATA to a close on July 31, 2026, and take the reins at IndiGo no later than August 3, 2026.
