What is Data Validation?

Data validation lets you set rules on text fields in your documents to help you collect more accurate information from signers.

For example, if you need to collect a Social Security number, your signer will have to enter nine digits. If they enter more or less than nine digits, they'll receive an error message.

How to set data validation

1. Create a signature request or template as you normally would.
2. Create a text field for your signer. 
3. Click the dropdown menu under Validation Type.

Your signer will be required to enter all five (or nine) digits of their zip code when they complete the field. If they don’t, they’ll receive a notification letting them know they need to enter the correct number of digits.

Types of data can you set rules for

• Numbers only
• Letters only
• Telephone number - 10 digits required (US format)
• Bank routing number - 9 digits required
• Bank account number - minimum of 6 digits required
• Email address - "@" symbol and "." required
• Zip code - 5 or 9 digits required
• SSN - 9 digits required
• EIN - 9 digits required 
• Custom regex - users can create their own rule for this field
