Password-protected documents in Dropbox DocSend
Updated Dec 09, 2025
In this article
DocSend currently does not support files that are password protected. If a password-protected file is uploaded, you’ll see the following error message:
This document appears to be password-protected. We do not currently support password-protected documents.
While you’ll need to remove the password configured on your document to successfully upload it to DocSend, you can still add protection to your shared content by enabling Passcode protection on your link settings.
If you’re on the Advanced plan, you can enable enhanced-security features like Allowed Viewers, Email Authentication, Watermarking, Agreements for access gating. Visit our Security section for more details.
