http://drupaleasy.com/podcast/2010/09/drupaleasy-podcast-44-andrews-workbox starting a bit before 29:00. This is an interesting discussion, that brings up some questions about the Guilds. Specifically, they discuss the worth of a peer driven certification.
I generally agree with the points they bring up, regarding why someone may want to have a certification, and the reputation of a certification. Personally, I believe the reputation of a specific peer-driven certification will depend on the diligence given by the peers. Just as would happen with a more corporate model (except in that case you're paying them for their diligence).
