Junior Achievement of Trinidad and Tobago

AugieII's picture

Only one, for me, i'll post the case study. Junior Achievement Trinidad and Tobago I'll post the case study I have on my XAMPP installation. This case study, is not so much dealing with the process of building the site, but is more geared towards the problem, and how it was solved. (I don't know if it is the place to post it)

Case Study

About Junior Achievement
Junior Achievement Trinidad and Tobago is one of the nation's largest Non Profit Organization. It is dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. Junior Achievement programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action and learn the value of contributing to their communities.

The Challenge
Junior Achievement accepts many volunteer and program registration forms every year. These were done in hard copy and the process was becoming a burden to the staff . They wanted to move this entire process to the internet, so that the process can be better streamlined and managed. They also wanted a system where students could log in and download or read the weekly bulletin for their company, visit Junior Achievement approved websites, get the latest news, and collaborate with their company members. The framework needed to be able to accept donations in the future. The target audience was identified as mainly teenagers, however the design needed to appeal to teachers, contributors and parents.

My Work
Junior Achievement asked me to complete the project. I held numerous meetings with their representative, in order to define the target audience, goal, purpose and time line of the project. We created personas based on knowledge of the target audience. I then created graphical mockups, navigational structure and functional prototypes. The content had to be edited and proof read to ensure that it was up to date and relevant to the target audience. Online forms were created to handle volunteer and program registrations. A secure log in system was used for the student area of the website. Each group of students had their own user name and password. The web site was built on a content management system, so staff members could update the content from any computer with an internet connection when ever they liked.

Results
The registration and volunteer processes is now streamlined and more manageable, saving Junior Achievement time and money. Communication among students and staff is improved. The Junior Achievement staff can update the site, when ever they like and from any computer with an internet connection, thus saving them the money needed to pay a webmaster to keep updating the website. Better awareness of Junior Achievement was built through the website.

Hmm. Well, here's mine.

At this point, mine are pretty much self-run.

KnowProSE.com: Personal geek/social media/business site. Still being rebuilt as time permits.
KnowTnT.com: Multiblog with business directory in planning stages. If you want to blog something, just log in.
OpenDepth.com: My more personal site... see the ugly stuff beneath. It's basically a place where I write stuff I don't write elsewhere.
Your2ndPlace.com: Virtual world website I started when I was more active in Second Life.

There's one site that I'm working on that I won't mention - it's for someone else and it isn't production ready.

Other sites I have worked on I won't take credit for at this time - they're either dead or new folk working on them. I'll just say I was tech lead for Trellon for a while and that to get that gig I had to have some Drupal experience. :-)
