IRC #drupal-florida is one of our best kept secrets. It's a great place to ask questions, brainstorm, or just chat. Here is a short guide to get you started if you fall into one of the following categories:
- You don't know what irc is
- You haven't been on irc since 1990
- You didn't know that Florida had their own channel
- No one ever answers your questions in the "big channels"
- The bot scares you
How to join (it's free)
Easiest: Click here: http://webchat.freenode.net/
Nickname: use your drupal groups name
Channels: #drupal-florida
Geekiest: Install an irc client. These are my personal recommendations. Please feel free to comment on what you prefer to use for your operating system.

Server: Freenode

Nick: Use your drupal groups nick
Register your nick Not a requirement but recommended if you don't want anyone else to be able to use your nick.
Type in: /msg nickserv register yourpassword youremail@example.com
Make sure to use a real email address as you will be sent an email with additional directions
Common commands
If you registered your nick, you will need to "identify" when you log in
/msg nickserv identify yourpassword
Join a channel, any channel
example: /join #drupal-florida
/join #channelname
Shortcut to type someones name
Type the first letter (or two) then tab key
Make an action statement
example: C13L0 laughs
/me laughs
Give someone karma
example: densolis++
nick++

Druplicon is our beloved bot. Make sure and give him !botdrinks and !botsnacks when you visit the channel.
Leave a message for someone
example: Druplicon tell ultimike to ping me

IRC Etiquette
1. It often takes time for someone to be able answer a question. Be patient and don't leave right away.
2. When someone makes an effort to help you, it is polite to give them karma
3. Help others
