Hey all – I was excited to see a g.d.o group for cooperatives, but this group seems very much geared towards consumer cooperatives (like food coops) rather than worker cooperatives who do Drupal work (which is what I was hoping.) Do folks think there's room for both, or should this stay focused on the Drupal needs of consumer cooperatives? Either way, I think the group name and description should be improved so the purpose of the group is more clear.

It looks and feels to me like this group is big enough for both, and probably others too. speaking as someone who works in a worker co-op doing Drupal stuff, and also involved in running a consumer co-op that uses Drupal, I'm really happy to bring the two together.
Welp
That's a good question.
It was started with the hope that we could form a critical mass of Drupal-using food co-ops, but it's obviously been pretty low traffic (despite the adoption of Drupal at numerous stores, startups, and national trade associations).
In theory, there's enough specific use case work to be done for consumer/retail coops to have their own group, but that reality isn't really being borne out.
Given the broad namespace, I wouldn't be opposed to a broader revision of the name/description, given the future option that gdo/consumer-coop or gdo/food-coops could be spun off.
But now as I reread your post, there's also http://groups.drupal.org/drupal-worker-cooperative
Either way, both the drupal worker coop and CSA groups should probably be linked in the description.
Hmm. I checked out the Drupal
Hmm. I checked out the Drupal Worker Cooperative group, and it seems like that's more focused on possibly forming a producer coop of sorts for Drupal providers. So that's different, too!
If folks think that conversations about cooperatives who work in Drupal would fit in this group, that could be cool.
Aye, it does look like that.
I hadn't read through that group much, yr right, the stated focus isn't cooperate shop discussion, the singular in the group name is significant. The "Are there Drupal Cooperatives?" thread is about as close as it gets.
So, given that there are natural overlaps and opportunities for info sharing between all types of cooperatives mentioned in this thread, and every opinion voiced is in favor, shall we?
Quick and dirty, I'm no copy writer:
"This group is for discussion of Drupal use within coops of all types, including Drupal shops operating under a cooperative structure"
?
I'm not sure credit unions, utility companies, or a few other types would be a good fit, but I think it's probably a moot point.
Anyone else?
Interested in both, let's meetup
I am interested in BOTH co-ops: work and food. But this message is about the former. I have been pitching (and running) a workers' cooperative for some time now. It used to be generically concerned with any information technologies, but for the last 6-8 months it has been focused entirely on DRUPAL: it is what we use to offer products & services, but it's also what we use to manage ourselves. We are [forever] recruiting new members to further improve upon what we can achieve or could achieve. There is STRENGTH in numbers! Let's have a meet-up on the subject of a bilingual Montreal-based drupal workers' cooperative. If there are more than 10 interested parties and/or simultaneous translation is needed, then we will do two meetups. I can host both. I will provide the place, the food and I am fluent in both official languages. Let see a show if hands ... a doodle will be launched, if necessary.
Anyone Interested in Forming a Drupal Workers' Coop?
I am new to and, perhaps as a result, enthusiastic about forming a worker's coop. I am not a coder, but I am a proficient putter-together-er of Drupal 7 and 8. And I can communicate well with potential clients on behalf of a team. I suppose that would put me in sales. Anyway, there're so many benefits to this route. I'd be willing to start a conversation with others who have also come to this conclusion or have experience in tech coops.
By the way, I'm a teacher turned techie, so I like to work on educational or school projects, but I don't often get the chance. Currently, none of clients is directly involved in education. Still, I enjoy working on their projects.
Tell me your story. I look forward to talking to you about how to prosper together.
