When will the choice of models, specifically Claude Sonnet 3.5 be available in IntelliJ IDEs via the GitHub Copilot Plugin for JetBrains?

Yeah, it's probable that Claude's answer to the question is wrong.
How can we validate this, though?

That wouldn't be a validation but a confirmation. Regardless - I do not think there is any way so far to confirm this information beyond the anecdote of how useful the output is. From what I can tell, it does seem to be switching models (o1 taking longer, 3.5 giving quality responses, etc.)

@up-luis I was questioning exactly the same question, and I could not tell by the quality of the responses. Did you find a way to confirm it please ?

Does changing model in chat dropdown also changes it for auto inline completes?

Yes, I updated to the latest version and found that the menu to change models is no longer there.

I'm running with IntelliJ IDEA 2024.3.4.1 and models are other models such as 'OpenAI o1 models in Copilot' and 'Anthropic Claude 3.5 Sonnet in Copilot' are Enabled in https://github.com/settings/copilot, but I only see 'GPT-3.5-Turbo' in the IDE dropdown for the models for completion 🤷‍♂️

I came here specifically to have Claude Sonnet 3.7 inline completions. It is enabled in our organization, but I cannot use it in the IDE for completions, only chat (which I don't use). Dear developers, help please?

Has anyone got past this? I'm using the Nightly update channel for the plugin, but I only see GPT-3.5 Turbo, as per the image above.

I can select between multiple enabled models in VSCode, just not in IntelliJ Ultimate w/ Copilot plugin. So the features are enabled in my corporate-managed GitHub account, but the plugin isn't picking them up.

Reinstalling the plugin, and/or logging out and back in again, doesn't fix this.

EDIT: In GitHub Copilot Chat, within IDEA, I can select from the set of enabled models (ChatGPT o3-mini, Sonnet 3.7, etc), and if I ask the model what it is, it responds correctly, so part of this is working. I'm just not sure how to set the Model for Completions model to be anything other than GPT-3.5 Turbo...

EDIT: we enabled "Editor preview features" in the corporate settings, and now I can select between "GPT-3.5 Turbo" and "GPT-4o Copilot (Preview)", but I can't choose any of the other Preview models like Sonnet 3.7. Is this expected behaviour?

After updating the plug-in using nightly source I can select available models from copilot chat window and inline chat. However, I am not being able to select a different model for autocompletions in copilot settings.

Indeed, me too. This is very annoying. I don't understand why they don't give this a priority. JetBrains's IntelliJ IDEA is the best IDE for anything Java related and Android related (Android Studio is based on IntelliJ IDEA). It doesn't make any sense for GitHub not to prioritize unless MS is playing favorites of their own editors and IDE's, which gives me a bad taste in my mouth. I hate politics even more so at work and in the technical field. I just want to use the best tools together.

Might not be exactly the answer you want but check out Firebender and Windsurf plugins. Both are great alternatives.
