The Task

The task was to build a solution for a user to add notes, review notes, and delete notes. The solution should be deployed to Heroku for access beyond the local device.

⭐ ⭐ S.T.A.R. ⭐ ⭐

SITUATION

The provided user story was:

AS A small business owner

I WANT to be able to write and save notes

SO THAT I can organize my thoughts and keep track of tasks I need to complete

TASK

Provide a solution where notes can be added, reviewed, and deleted.

ACTION

Writing of a solution to resolve the situation, including:

  • Layout
    • Simple, yet attractive design
    • Logical layout
    • Improved code visualisation - eg: indentation
    • Error free loading
    • Save icon appears when data is ready to be saved
  • Javascript
    • Error free performance
    • Multiple functions to separate aspects of code
    • Thorough comments
    • GET, POST, DELETE requests handled within server file
  • GIT
    • Numerous commits to track changes in code
    • Code added to public repository and Github Pages for public viewing
  • Functionality
    • Data is available across different devices due to Heroku deployment
    • Data displayed correctly after user action
    • Traversing between landing and notes pages works without issue

RESULT

The end code is stored on Github and deployed on Heroku, and publicly available and viewable. This result meets all requirements of the User Story and acceptance criteria:

  • GIVEN a note-taking application
  • WHEN I open the Note Taker
  • THEN I am presented with a landing page with a link to a notes page
  • WHEN I click on the link to the notes page
  • THEN I am presented with a page with existing notes listed in the left-hand column, plus empty fields to enter a new note title and the note’s text in the right-hand column
  • WHEN I enter a new note title and the note’s text
  • THEN a Save icon appears in the navigation at the top of the page
  • WHEN I click on the Save icon
  • THEN the new note I have entered is saved and appears in the left-hand column with the other existing notes
  • WHEN I click on an existing note in the list in the left-hand column
  • THEN that note appears in the right-hand column
  • WHEN I click on the Write icon in the navigation at the top of the page
  • THEN I am presented with empty fields to enter a new note title and the note’s text in the right-hand column

The Outcome

As the acceptance criteria has been met and the task is now complete.
