Release archives already include
backplane-kipc, but the shell installer and updater omit it when copying helpers beside the hub. This change installs or replaces that helper when present, retaining compatibility with older archives that omit optional helpers. This draft activates contributor-fork CI before an upstream pull request. It does not publish or install a release.
Validation uses generated archives, real checksums, temporary homes and install prefixes, and stubbed download/platform commands. Installer coverage includes Linux x64, Linux ARM64, and Darwin ARM64 asset selection; fresh installs, replacement of stale helpers, missing optional helpers, and checksum rejection without modifying an existing installation. A small native fixture calls the production updater file swap against temporary directories. CI builds and runs it on Linux x64, Linux ARM64, and macOS. Phone builds run in a separate workflow pinned to this feature revision.
Local installer validation: 366 assertions pass. The same harness against the unmodified installer produces nine expected failures for the missing or stale KiCad IPC helper. Hosted checks are pending.
