We are pleased to announce a major milestone: The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (Väylä) has selected C2 SmartLight as the nationwide provider of road lighting control and monitoring services for the years 2026–2036. The new system will bring real-time visibility, clearer monitoring, and improved deviation management to Finland’s road lighting network. The goal is reliable, high-performing road lighting that supports traffic safety every night. Installations will begin in spring 2026, and the service will be fully operational at the beginning of December. Xplora Technologies to Acquire emporia Group to Expand European Footprint Oslo-based Xplora Technologies AS has reached an agreement to acquire 100% of the emporia Group. The acquisition of the Linz-headquartered company is intended to broaden Xplora’s reach in the senior mobile device and service market, building on its existing portfolio of family-focused technology. The transaction will be financed through Xplora’s existing cash reserves, and the company expects the deal to be earnings accretive within its first year of operation. Founded over 30 years ago, emporia has become a primary provider of senior-specific mobile devices in the DACH region, covering Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. With annual sales of approximately 300,000 units across Europe, the company maintains a significant hardware footprint. The acquisition follows Xplora’s previous purchase of Doro, which holds a leading position in the UK, France, and the Nordics. By adding emporia’s Central European distribution network, Xplora aims to establish a more unified presence across the continent. A central component of the deal is the integration of emporia’s hardware with Xplora’s subscription-based platform. Xplora plans to introduce its own SIM cards and Mobile Virtual Network Operator (#MVNO) services to emporia’s device users. This reflects Xplora’s successful strategy to move away from one-time device and hardware sales toward recurring service revenue. According to Xplora CEO Sten Kirkbak, the acquisition is designed to scale the company's subscription model while maintaining the user-friendly design philosophy emporia is known for. Eveline Pupeter, the current CEO and owner of emporia, indicated that Xplora’s operational and financial resources will provide the necessary infrastructure for the brand to remain competitive in the evolving digital landscape. Both parties expect to finalize the definitive agreement and complete the transfer of shares during the second quarter of 2026. Founded in 2016, Xplora Technologies is a Norway-based pioneer in the family IoT (Internet of Things) market, originally gaining international recognition for its industry-leading children's smartwatches. The company has since evolved into a comprehensive family safety platform, operating as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in numerous global markets to provide integrated hardware and connectivity solutions. From Ericsson's Q3 report: Recurring annual IPR licensing revenue is at 13 billion SEK, which is approximately $1.37B. "IPR licensing revenues decreased to SEK 3.1 (3.5) b. as Q3 2024 benefited from retroactive revenue for unlicensed periods. 82% of IPR licensing revenues are reported in segment Networks, with the remainder in Cloud Software and Services. IPR licensing revenue growth opportunities remain, including from increased penetration of the smartphone market and from new applications. Optimizing the terms and value of new agreements and renewals will remain a priority."

The new telecoms centre is designed to improve data transfer speeds and speed up the operation of services, especially foreign services such as Telegram. According to Sergei Bykov, Beeline's Executive Vice President, the launch of the new telecoms centre will improve the user experience for #russian #customers. - The introduction of the new centre will help our customers to use familiar services such as messaging, transferring files, watching movies and playing games. All at maximum speed and with the best possible quality," says Bykov. Beeline is one of the three largest mobile operators in Russia. In 2023, it had around 44 million customers. Its parent company VimpelCom is one of the 20 most valuable listed companies in Russia. Following Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, Western countries imposed sanctions on Russia, including on its technology industry and telecoms sector. Canada has imposed sanctions on all of Russia's leading mobile phone operators, including VimpelCom. The Oulu region has strong semiconductor and microelectronics expertise. The Chip from the Very North event provided an excellent overview of what the North knows. The following were particularly highlighted: * The strategic importance of European chip technology – security of supply, expertise and competitiveness. * The collaboration between research, industry and the startup ecosystem, in which the Oulu region plays a strong role. * Concrete use cases in, for example, wireless technology, edge computing and industrial solutions. * Future skills needs that emphasize long-term investment in education and research and development. The event reinforced the perception that the “Very North” is not left behind in development – ​​on the contrary, the future of the European chip industry is being actively built here.
