We were pleased to welcome 30 talented students from Sciences Po Finance to our Paris office last week for an immersive look into Lazard’s culture and career opportunities. The session opened with a keynote from Razika Abchiche, Managing Director in the Financial Sponsors team, who shared insights into our diverse areas of expertise. As the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict unfolds, the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz has reduced maritime traffic by approximately 95 percent, sending shockwaves well beyond energy markets. One possibility for a near-term resumption of traffic is US-led naval escorts, which yield only a limited resumption of traffic that prioritizes critical energy flows. Non-energy commodities that are also heavily dependent on the Strait such as fertilizers, petrochemicals, metals and semiconductor inputs may not see much relief and could experience disproportionate levels of supply chain disruption for longer, with cascading effects on downstream industries. Lazard’s Geopolitical Advisory team advises companies on how to plan for sustained volatility in costs, logistics, and availability across sectors.
