Categorising as a portal-class page

Portal:Wikipedia redirects to this page in project namespace, so I manually added this talk page to Category:Portal-Class Wikipedia pages.

However, Bsherr (talk · contribs) has just removed this page from the category, leaving the latter empty, insisting that pages should be added to this category through Template:WikiProject Wikipedia.

That template does not recognise the class parameter in WikiProject banner shell, and instead takes the class Project from the namespace.

@MSGJ: any thoughts on this unusual case, please? Portal talk:Wikipedia does not populate the category either, because it's in Redirect-class. Should the category be deleted as permanently empty? – Fayenatic London 22:19, 15 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi Fayenatic london. May I ask why you are looking to add the page to this category? The category is part of the assessment scheme for WikiProject Wikipedia, and Wikipedia:Community portal is outside scope of WikiProject Wikipedia. --Bsherr (talk) 16:00, 16 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to revert the assessment for WikiProject Wikipedia for now, but I would be happy to discuss further whether the page falls within the scope of the project. --Bsherr (talk) 13:37, 17 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I see what you mean about the scope – thank you. – Fayenatic London 19:03, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
