Hey Habeshakira, I reverted your edit on Ethiopia for two main reasons; one is that the Egyptians were not apart of the Scramble of Africa nor were they a party to the Berlin Conference, infact they were one of the victims of it and was colonized by the British. Another reason is that Egypt did not really want to conquer Ethiopia, unlike the Italians, instead their territorial claims were limited to Tigray.

I just think that it is wrong to put the Ethiopian-Egyptian conflict on the same level as the Italo-Ethiopian one to the reader as the Battle of Adwa is one of the most significant events in Ethiopian history. Socialwave597 (talk) 19:20, 14 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

I disagree that Egypt didn't want to conquer Ethiopia.

The EA itself, on Ismail's plan ("Ḥarär under Egyptian occupation 1875–85" entry):

"a wide-scale joint military effort to invade the Ethiopian highlands, encircle Ethiopia, and create territorial continuity with Egyptian territories in the Sudan"

And on his ultimate goal:

"òidiw Ismaʿil's grand plan to establish his 'African empire' from the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean to the Nile"

2. The French government's assessment (Yohannes IV: A Political Biography):

"the Egyptian government was now engaged in a war whose aim was the conquest of Ethiopia"

3. British public opinion on the Khedive's plan (same source):

"British public opinion was also opposed to the Khedive's plan (as it was reported) of annexing Ethiopia"

4. The Khedive's own words on his territorial claims (same source, to Stanton):

"all the points on the African coast of the Red Sea from Suez to Berbera were under Egyptian administration and belonged to the Ottoman government"

And I also disagree that Egypt wasn't apart of the Scramble of Africa. They were both a victim and a colonizer. You didn't have to be a party to the berlin conference to be apart of the scramble of Africa. And I believe they were deeply involved in the Scramble for Africa during the late 1800s. I have used Grammarly to edit and fix my grammar and correct my sentences. If the reason for this was because of my edit on the Ethiopian Adal War, then no, that would be a false flag. Really? I suggest discussing the changes and explain why. Removing it outright is not how it works here even if one doesnt like the content. Usually i'm not interested in this topic however when its used as a reliable source consistently there needs to be a correction. The sources don't state this. I checked all three PDFs specifically for this claim and none of them say it, anywhere. Per WP:V, the burden is on the editor adding the content to show it's supported, not on me to disprove it. That burden hasn't been met. If you have a specific page or quote from one of these three sources that supports the claim, post it. Until then, per WP:ONUS, it doesn't go back in. Kristos (talk) 07:54, 19 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
