Nils Olav
Sir Nils Olav, colonel-in-chief of the Norwegian Army's King's Guard, inspects his troops in 2008. Olav was inducted into the army in 1972 with the rank of lance corporal, and has received a series of promotions since then as well as a knighthood. Since 2023 he has held the rank of major general. The name Nils Olav, and its associated ranks, have been used by three king penguins over the years, all resident at Edinburgh Zoo. The animal pictured is the second. His military insignia is attached to his flipper.Photograph credit: Mark Owens

Overview

[edit]

Exteray, a Wikipedian, was born in 1990.

Wikimania

[edit]

A currently avid user of Wikipedia, Exteray first saw this amazing project several years ago. He was instantly drawn to it [citation needed].

He spends as much time on Wikipedia now that it has led to parental objection. (His parents are very strict). But in his young mind Wikipedia is his life.

His Userboxes

[edit]

Exteray has an uncanny fascination with userboxes. He allegedly spent the entire night creating semi-random userboxes for himself when he first knew about its existence. To date, there are over 356 of them.[citation needed] Due to this overwhelming number of userboxes, they are displayed on a separate page here.

How to transclude a page into the page you are editing

Including the contents of one page ("the template") into a host page is called transclusion. This allows the host page to automatically be updated whenever the template page is updated. It is accomplished on Wikipedia by surrounding the name of the page from which the contents are being transcluded with two pairs of curly brackets and leaving out the "Template:" prefix. In addition, pages in the following namespaces can also be transcluded: Category:, Help:, Portal:, User:, and Wikipedia:. The only difference is that you must include the prefix (followed by a colon) with the page's name inside the double curly brackets. Images can also be transcluded, but this is done using double square brackets instead of curly ones. Here are some examples of templates that will transclude if you paste them, save them, and then refresh or purge the page:

{{Pic of the day}} · {{Tip of the day}} · {{Help:Contents}} · [[File:Wikipedia-logo.png]]

To add this auto-randomizing template to your user page, use {{totd-random}}
