The Samsung W series (Chinese: 三星W系列; pinyin: Sānxīng W xìliè) (also known as the Samsung Simgyecheonha series) is a line of foldable smartphones manufactured, developed and designed by Samsung Electronics (formerly the smart folders until SM-W2019), specifically targeting the Chinese market. The W series offers high-end versions of the Galaxy Z series in 2019 (since W20 5G). It was introduced in 2008.
Launch
[edit]The Samsung W series was officially launched in 2008 with SCH-W599 marking the debut of this line. This device was released in collaboration with China Telecom and tailored to meet the preferences of Chinese consumers.
W series models

- W22 5G (2021): Based on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3.
- W23 5G and W23 Flip 5G (2022): The former being based on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, and the latter being the first flip model of the series, based on the Galaxy Flip4.
- W24 5G and W24 Flip 5G (2023): Upgraded versions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5 respectively with enhanced specifications and design refinements.
- W25 5G and W25 Flip 5G (2024): Based on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (itself based on the Z Fold6) and the Galaxy Z Flip6 respectively. [1]
- W26 5G (2025): The latest model, based on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7. No Flip equivalent was produced.
Hardware

[edit]The W series devices are powered by the latest high-performance Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processors in the W24 5G and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the W25 5G.
Display
[edit]- The W23 5G and W24 5G offer similar display sizes with slightly different refinements in terms of brightness, color accuracy, and folding mechanisms.
- The W25 5G features an 8-inch internal foldable display. The external screen measures 6.5 inches, providing ease of use when the device is closed.[2]
RAM & Storage
[edit]The W series smartphones come with high RAM configurations, starting from 12 GB and going up to 16 GB. Storage options vary, typically ranging from 512 GB to 1 TB.[3][4]
Battery
[edit]The W series includes large battery capacities, with the W23 5G and W24 5G sporting a 4,400 mAh dual-cell battery to support heavy usage throughout the day. The W25 5G features a 5000 mAh battery to meet the demands of the latest specifications.
Cameras
[edit]The W series offers a 50 MP primary camera with a multi-lens camera setup.
Software
[edit]SCH-W699 and SCH-W799 run on Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.5 respectively.
Since W899, The Samsung W series runs on the Samsung's custom skins for Android:
- TouchWiz, until SM-W2017
- Samsung Experience, for SM-W2018 & SM-W2019 (also upgradable to One UI 1.0 & 2.5 respectively)
- One UI, since W20 5G, which brings features like Flex Mode and App Continuity. The software also integrates seamlessly with Samsung's ecosystem, offering features like Samsung DeX and Samsung Knox for security.
Other variants
[edit]The W series includes both traditional foldable models and Flip versions:
- W24 Flip 5G: Similarly, the W24 Flip 5G is the compact version of the W24 5G, offering a more portable foldable experience with premium build quality and similar high-end specs.
- W25 Flip 5G: The W25 Flip 5G features a clamshell design, a compact foldable with a 6.7-inch internal display and a 1.9-inch external display. Like its bigger sibling, the W25 Flip 5G comes with high-end specs and luxury materials, such as a ceramic back and gold-plated frame.
