Dr. Vinod Kumar Verma (born 26 April 1954) is an Indian litterateur, author, and critic specializing in Hindi and Chhattisgarhi literature. He is best known for his academic contributions to the standardization of Chhattisgarhi grammar and his research into tribal literature. His short story, Machhuare Ki Ladki (The Fisherman's Daughter), is a part of the postgraduate Hindi curriculum at Shaheed Mahendra Karma Vishwavidyalaya.
Early life and education
[edit]Dr. Vinod Kumar Verma was born in Faguram, Sakti district, Chhattisgarh. He was born into a political family; his father, Late Shri Bhawani Lal Verma, was a three-time minister in the undivided Madhya Pradesh government.
Dr. Vinod Kumar Verma pursued his scientific education alongside his literary interests, earning a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Agronomy from Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (JNKVV), Jabalpur. He later transitioned into humanities for his doctoral studies, obtaining a Ph.D. from Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur.
Literary career
[edit]Dr. Vinod Kumar Verma's work spans several decades, focusing on the preservation of regional identity through linguistics. He is a prominent figure in the "Chhattisgarhi Rajbhasha Aayog" (Chhattisgarh State Language Commission) [1], where he authored the Chhattisgarhi Ka Mankikaran Margdarshika [2], a guide intended to standardize the regional language for official and educational use.
His literary output includes fiction, poetry, and extensive works on literary criticism. His 2018 work, Chhattisgarhi Ka Sampurn Vyakaran [3] ISBN 10 8193253418, is considered a foundational text for the study of the language and has been included in the M.A. curriculum of Pt. Sundarlal Sharma Open University [4]
