The 2026 FIFA Crisis was a major conflict within international football that erupted in July 2026. It was triggered by FIFA president Gianni Infantino's plan to sell a 20% minority stake of a newly created commercial organization for its competitions, FIFA Forward Enterprise, to private investors for over $20 billion. The plan faced significant backlash from continental governing bodies like the UEFA, CONCACAF, and the AFC, as well as from ministers in governments across Europe[1], ultimately leading the former to demand Infantino's resignation.[2] Though the plan was later scrapped, the crisis has weakened the long term prospects of his presidency and eroded trust in his leadership.[3][4][5][6]
