Arggh! Still buzzing from yesterday. I was deeply honoured (and totally flabbergasted) to receive the Tech & AI Individual Award at the 2026 Lexology European Awards last night. To me - Lexology is the Vogue of the legal world! I’ve been subscribing to Lexology since it was launched, at the very start of my legal career almost 20 years ago -- so this feels incredibly full circle. When I received the nomination email, I thought it could not possibly be real and being the security/privacy conscious person I am - I promptly reported it to my security team as phishing. 😅 Occupational hazard. Yesterday, I also had the absolute privilege of hosting roundtable discussions with leaders across the legal and regulatory ecosystem at the Lexology Live Europe 2026 Conference - "The GC voice in the era of AI". Thank you Lexology for placing trust in me to do that - amongst so many amazingly talented leaders. I loved making new connections across the UK and Europe and hearing so much thought provoking insight. One thing is clear: the conversation has moved on. AI in legal services is no longer innovation theatre. It is the norm. It is governance. It is infrastructure. It is board agenda. Competitive advantage will not come from experimentation alone, it will come from disciplined implementation, accountable oversight and leaders who understand both the technology and the risk. Whilst it is undoubtedly an honour to be recognised in this space - I will not profess to be an expert here - regulation in this space is very new - and I am constantly learning from my super smart product and engineering colleagues and my incredibly intelligent peers. I’m deeply grateful - especially to Emily Cochrane, an exceptional lawyer, generous leader, colleague and friend for taking the time out of her very busy schedule to nominate me. That meant a great deal. I was about to apologise for babbling on here - but if you cannot champion yourself - who will. It was a wonderful day yesterday - from morning till night. Even if I did get my heel caught on the steps walking up to collect the award - proof that transformation may be exponential, but gravity remains undefeated. 😂. We are entering a defining chapter for our profession - legal colleagues. The real differentiator will not be who uses AI (although I encourage us all to lean in). It will be who governs it well. Who scales it responsibly. Who has the courage to redesign legacy models rather than defend them. That is the work ahead. And I am so excited to help shape it.
