Apple Watch S11 GPS: USA purchase, SA features/warranty

Hi, I am currently in USA. I would like to buy an Apple Watch Series 11 GPS only. I live in South Africa. Will all the features work when I get back to South Africa. And will I keep my warranty in South Africa?

The Watch warranty is specific to the country in which the watch was purchased. The warranty does not valid if you take the watch to another country. A watch bought in the US does not have a warranty in South Africa.

This link is for the Watch feature availabilty.

Not really an issue with Apple devices. Any difference in feature availability would be taken care of with the first software update in South Africa. watchOS updates are country specific.

The more likely issue is that if a feature is available in the US, but not South Africa, with the first South African watchOS update, that feature would be removed from the watch. For example, Apple Cash would most likely be removed from the Wallet app in South Africa.

Yes, agreed. I was also thinking that some of the health features are restricted differently (or are not available) in different countries.

Plus the other issue previous discussed regarding warranty service only from the country of the origin of the sale.

Well, it appears then that this is your choice:

Lower price by 40-50% but with a warranty that you may not be able to utilize. So any repairs even during the warranty period, you would need to pay for out of pocket. It's a gamble. That said, we have owned maybe a dozen iPhones over the years and two received service under warranty or AppleCare; in both of those instances, Apple replaced them with new iPhones. Also one AppleTV was faulty, also replaced with a new device. Of the two Apple watches, neither have required warranty or AppleCare service. Of the maybe ~ one dozen Macs (iMacs, MacBook Airs, and Macbooks Pros), none have required warranty or AppleCare service. Apple products are pretty high quality.

As for declaring or not declaring the device for customs, that's your call but I always follow the letter of the law there. I have been selected at random in airports for a complete search of everything I had in all bags and everything, so I know it can happen.

You could order the watch from a South African seller like iStore or Incredible Connection or others and have it shipped to you, I believe shipping is free. It is not hard to set up the watch there in South Africa when it arrives. I did that (in the U.S.) with my Series 11 and it was very easy to set up. I would be concerned that purchasing and setting it up in the U.S. might lead to something not compatible in South Africa.
