Nagendra Prasadu hat dies gepostetI recently had a hands-on AI experience that genuinely reshaped how I think about building software—and teams. During an internal hackathon, I worked on a proof of concept exploring MCP servers (Model Context Protocol) as a way for AI agents to interact with enterprise systems. It quickly became clear that this wasn’t just another technical experiment—it offered a glimpse into a new operating model for engineering and product development. We built an MCP server that exposes tools derived from API specifications and connected it to an AI agent. What stood out wasn’t the integration itself, but how the work was done. We validated a realistic business scenario involving a common operational workflow. The agent was able to reason through contextual ambiguity, identify duplicate entities, and guide the user toward the correct choice—demonstrating reasoning, context awareness, and user-centric behavior without being explicitly programmed for each step. The real breakthrough for me: We didn’t write traditional application code. Our role shifted from builders to reviewers, validators, and decision-makers. The MCP server itself was generated by AI, while humans focused on intent, correctness, and outcomes. This feels like a fundamental shift in how software can be created. Why this matters The broader vision is AI agents that can reliably handle end-to-end operational workflows—resolving real user needs, not just answering questions. Over time, such agents could: - Be wrapped with voice or conversational interfaces - Integrate deeply into enterprise and partner ecosystems - Act as true operators rather than simple interfaces I strongly believe MCP servers will emerge as a standard abstraction layer for connecting AI agents to enterprise knowledge and tooling—APIs, documentation, issue trackers, code repositories, and beyond. This isn’t just about productivity. It’s about redefining roles, accelerating decision-making, and changing how teams collaborate with software. Because last week I did 😅 I run a community forum on a highly optimized Raspberry Pi stack. To save the SD card, the entire database lives in RAM and backs up hourly to Google Drive. It ran perfectly for 6 months... until a badly timed reboot triggered a race condition. My script ran rclone sync instead of rclone copy. It saw an empty RAM disk and faithfully synced that "empty" state to the cloud—instantly wiping months of community data and user uploads. If I had used a "professional" backup target like an S3 bucket or a NAS, it would have been a terminal event. Those systems do exactly what you tell them to. Instead, I was saved by a bizarre chain of consumer-grade safety nets I never actually asked for: Google Drive’s 30-day trash and a forgotten Windows Recycle Bin. I wrote a full post-mortem on Medium about the incident, the critical difference between syncing and copying, and why consumer cloud storage makes a surprisingly resilient (if accidental) safety net. I just dropped a full CTA mock on the channel, and this one’s a good one. This is a dense, real-world scenario with United Bank, and it goes way beyond “did you memorize the pattern.” We get into trade-offs, constraints, priorities, and how to actually tell a coherent architecture story under pressure. There are solid decisions here, some things done really well, and of course a few areas where tightening the narrative would make a big difference at the board. If you’re prepping for the CTA Review Board, this is exactly the kind of thinking you should be practicing: • framing the problem clearly • making explicit trade-offs • defending your decisions without over-engineering • staying outcome-focused when time is working against you These mocks aren’t about perfection. Developers are not the bottleneck. Leadership and the SDLC are. 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝗿𝘀. 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁 Developers have survived every shift: • Languages • Frameworks • Clouds • Automation Agentic AI coding is just the next challenge for them. We’ll need **fewer people typing code** and **more engineers who understand systems**. Doers can always upgrade. They always have. **The Industry Will Evolve- Overnight Expectations Are Coming** What changes isn’t demand. It’s **time**. Businesses won’t wait months anymore. 🌍 From JSON to Avro – Our Journey of Evolution for making our system more efficient 🚀 When we first built our service, JSON Schema felt like the obvious choice. 👉 Easy to read. 👉 Easy to debug. 👉 Familiar to every developer. But as our system scaled and started getting millions of events in kafka, JSON started showing a bluff: Bigger payload sizes → higher network costs. Slower serialization → added latency. Schema evolution → Schema can be change from Producer and it will impact the consumer That’s when we decided to make a bold move: ✨ Migrate from JSON Schema → Avro Schema. 🚀 What we gained with Avro: ✅ Performance Boost – Compact binary format = smaller payloads + faster serialization. ✅ Seamless Schema Evolution – Backward/forward compatibility built-in/Fixed Payload Schema avoid consumer errors ✅ Polyglot Friendly – Works consistently across Java, Python, Go, etc. ✅ Perfect for Big Data & Streaming – Native in Kafka, Hadoop, Spark. ⚖️ The Trade-offs we faced: ⚠️ Data isn’t human-readable anymore (you’ll need tooling). ⚠️ A Schema Registry became a must-have for versioning. ⚠️ A learning curve for teams used to “just JSON”. 💡 The Bigger Picture: This migration taught us something important — 👉 Readable isn’t always scalable in real world. 👉 Performance & compatibility drive long-term sustainability. Avro may not look as friendly as JSON at first glance, but for event-driven, data-intensive systems, it’s like shifting from a bicycle 🚲 to a bullet train 🚄. 🔥 Our takeaway: ➡️ JSON gave a start to our system. ➡️ Avro is taking us forward to make system more scalable.
