When ProSyst became part of Bosch in 2016, I joined a company that gave me something rare: the freedom to keep building, exploring, and learning at the edge of where technology was heading. From Bosch Software Innovations to Bosch.IO to Bosch SDS — the names changed, the mission kept evolving. Looking back, I'm deeply grateful for what these years have given me: → A front-row seat to the shift to IoT to AI — and the privilege of helping shape parts of it across automotive, manufacturing, energy, building automation, and beyond. → The chance to work alongside brilliant colleagues — engineers, product people, customers, partners — who challenged me, trusted me, and made the hard problems worth solving. → A global stage. From Sofia to Stuttgart, Detroit to Tokyo, Athens to Boston — I got to learn how technology lives in very different cultures, and how universal the curiosity of good engineers really is. → The chance to be a voice for our technology — as an evangelist and recognized thought leader on stage and across social media (humbled to have been recognized in Onalytica's IoT influencer and Who's Who rankings), as Master of Ceremony for the Bosch Connected Experience IoT Hackathon at Bosch Connected World, and as co-founder of Bosch Bytes, our industry event bringing leaders together in Athens. Few things are as rewarding as turning complex technology into a story a room full of builders actually gets excited about. → A home in the open standards and open-source communities. Serving on the board of the OSGi Alliance, transitioning to the Eclipse Foundation, helping to promote projects like Kanto and hawkBit — these weren't side activities. They shaped how I think about software, ecosystems, and trust. → The privilege of leading and mentoring people across continents — many of whom have long outgrown me. Watching them lead today is, honestly, the part I'm proudest of. To every colleague, customer, partner, and friend I've crossed paths with over these 25+ years: thank you. It’s hard to put in words what these years have given me. I’ve worn so many different hats: starting with leading delivery with AWS customers’ engineering teams and accelerating their cloud journeys, followed by working with the AWS IoT and Open Source developer communities, Automotive engineering, and most recently leading the FireTV Device Setup engineering team. What I’ll carry with me isn’t only the projects, it’s especially the people. The managers who took bets on me, my brilliant engineers and direct reports on FireTV Device Setup, the partners and colleagues across orgs who made hard problems feel solvable. You’ve all shaped how I think, how I lead, and the standards I hold myself to. Thank you for the trust, the candor, and the friendships I know will outlast my badge! Most organisations still govern AI like software procurement. That approach is starting to show its limits. AI pricing is shifting rapidly from flat-rate access to consumption-based economics. And the meters are multiplying: reasoning time, long-context processing, agent orchestration and tool execution are all now billable. The bigger challenge is that most AI cost drivers don’t sit in the licence fee. They sit in decisions that look small at the time: model selection, workflow design, routing, caching and agent autonomy. Each one quietly shapes the bill for years. That makes AI cost a shared executive issue, not just a technology one. For CFOs, it’s a question of unit economics, margin and cost predictability. For CIOs and CTOs, it’s a question of designing systems that scale commercially as well as technically. Such a beautiful town, with really supportive crowds. My son and I also enjoyed a lovely bike ride the next day along Lake Champlain. So grateful to be back running after the eye injury!

This was one standout exchange for me at the AFCEA Bonn conference last week, which brought together military, government, NATO and industry leaders to "think networked & act securely as a response to comprehensive national defence”. The observation above from Dr. Alexander Löw, Data-Warehouse GmbH, was striking - when quantum-powered compute threats arrive we will probably not notice them. Hostile states, criminals and other threat actors will penetrate even deeper in our networks, remaining undetected and able to wreak more havoc. ➡️ We know "harvest now, decrypt later" attacks are already happening. ➡️ We know estimated quantum resources required to break current cryptography are dropping much faster than expected: https://lnkd.in/ewTxuyuB ➡️ We know from Mythos about the exponentially increasing complexity and power of AI-driven cyber attacks. ➡️ And we know the current model of patching at ever greater speed and scale isn't sustainable...
