Webinar alert! Perceptions of modern librarians are often outdated, with subject librarians viewed as relics and catalogers becoming rare. Today's academic librarians are expected to operate in flatter hierarchies, take on multiple roles and be versatile and well-informed amid budget constraints. This session on May 15 at 3pm SGT (Singapore time) will feature Natalie Pang (National University of Singapore) and Steve Sharp (Sheffield Hallam University) discussing the people structure that facilitates this adaptability. Organized in partnership with Gold Leaf. Register now! https://lnkd.in/eWVQEYts #DeGruyterBrill #Libraries #AcademicLibraries #Webinar

De Gruyter Brill hat dies direkt geteilt
What does it mean to be a public intellectual today—and who’s listening? How do thinkers, creatives, and cultural voices influence public life in North America and Europe, particularly in Germany? On May 22nd in Berlin, 1014 Deutschland e.V. and De Gruyter Brill explore how public intellectuals have shaped democratic societies in the past—and how their role is evolving amid growing polarization, social media, and political shifts. Joining the conversation are Peggy Piesche, leader of the "Political Education and Plural Democracy" department at the Federal Agency for Civic Education in Gera; Jeffrey M. Peck, President of the Friends and Sponsors of the German-American Fulbright Program in Berlin, and Timothy Ryback, co-founder and director of the Institute for Historical Justice and Reconciliation in The Hague. The conversation, moderated by Irene Kacandes, dives into the new questions developing from recent shifts in democratic societies. Are freedom of speech and open debate still thriving on both sides of the Atlantic? Have topics like gender, racism, and antisemitism become harder to discuss publicly? And what’s at stake for our media, academic and cultural institutions? How is the public intellectual defining its role in this changing landscape? Register now for this upcoming discussion in Berlin! https://lnkd.in/eMwX9wRG

The best part of my job is accompanying authors on their journey—from the initial book idea to book presentations once the book has been published.
