The first digital project can change everything. What starts as one concrete industrial challenge often leads Swiss SMEs to rethink much more than a single process. ⚡ What does the future of brain-machine interfaces look like? According to Xi Chen, it starts with rethinking how chips “listen” to the brain. Through his joint CSEM – ETH Zürich doctoral work within SwissChips, Xi is developing new neural recording chip architectures that could help future systems interpret tiny brain signals more efficiently, opening the door to technologies supporting speech restoration, advanced prosthetics, and next-generation biomedical devices. At CSEM, we’re supporting the development of 𝗽𝗿é𝗫𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲, a rapid test designed to help clinicians assess preeclampsia risk from a simple fingertip blood sample, with results available in 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀. ⏱️ The project brings together expertise from Swiss medtech start-up MOMM Diagnostics, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW and CSEM to move lab-quality diagnostics closer to the point of care. 📊 During the past 12 months, Kantonsspital Baden AG (KSB) carried out a mid-stage clinical evaluation as part of the PRETECH study (Preeclampsia Test for Efficient Clinical Handling).
