Info
CERN is a truly unique organisation. A genuine collaboration between countries, universities, and scientists, driven not by profit margins, but by a commitment to create and share knowledge. People here are part of immense scientific discoveries, answering some of life’s most complex questions and pushing the boundaries of understanding. Experts from every field come here to share in this ambition and the nature of this collaborative, international community creates a genuine atmosphere of trust. People are free to work creatively and to trust in, and rely on, their colleagues across the organisation. History’s being made here – and the excitement is tangible, inspiring, and overwhelming at times. It is the only place in the world where you can do this work in this way. --- If you’ve worked at CERN in the past, why not join the official CERN LinkedIn Alumni group, linked from this page.

So it has begun… the heavy-ion run at the #LHC 💪 This week, a new #HeavyIon run began at the Large Hadron Collider, smashing together lead ions, recreating the extreme conditions of the early #Universe and producing the quark–gluon plasma. Here we see event-displays of lead–lead collisions recorded by the LHC experiments: ATLAS Collaboration, CMS Collaboration, ALICE Collaboration, LHCb Collaboration. For the next two weeks, every minute counts to take lead–lead collision data. This run will conclude with a high-intensity test, which will probe the LHC’s behaviour under conditions closer to those expected at the #HiLumiLHC. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/dUGAThxY

Did you know that school students can do hands-on experiments with particle detector technology developed at CERN? TIMEPIX@school is a new CERN-led initiative supported through the CERN & Society Foundation that brings Timepix-based detectors into classrooms worldwide. Swipe through to learn more → Interested in applying? Schools, universities, institutes and research centres are invited to submit their proposal by 30 June. What’s going on at the #LHC? 🤔 While the Large Hadron Collider mostly collides protons, once a year it collides heavy ions – such as lead nuclei – a key ingredient for recreating the extreme conditions of the early #Universe. Hear from Silvia Pisano, Run Coordinator at the ALICE Experiment, about this year’s heavy-ion run at the LHC, and what’s happening after it. The run will conclude with a two-week high-intensity test, which will probe the LHC’s behaviour under conditions closer to those expected at the #HiLumiLHC. #AskAPhysicist #LHCRun3 ALICE Collaboration

It’s a wrap for proton–proton collisions at the #LHC💫 Here we see the event displays of the last proton collisions, recorded on 15 and 16 May by the CERN experiments: ATLAS Collaboration, CMS Collaboration, ALICE Collaboration and LHCb Collaboration. The experiments are now preparing for three weeks of lead-ion collisions, before the official end of #LHCRun3 and the start of the road to #HiLumiLHC, the successor to CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. #FunFact: the next time the experiments will be detecting particles again from proton–proton collisions will be in four years. Learn more about what these event displays mean and how they help scientists #AtCERN: https://lnkd.in/efFMngmW
