Creating digital learning content often starts with the assumption that learners will engage with it in similar ways. In reality, they don’t. Some rely on screen readers. Others need captions to follow audio or video. Some cannot use a mouse and depend entirely on a keyboard. For many, clarity and structure make the difference between understanding and frustration. Accessibility is not an optional feature. It is part of what makes learning possible. ➡️ Why this matters for publishers and institutions For publishers and institutions, this has a direct impact. The materials publishers and institutions create are the interface through which teaching and learning happen. If that interface excludes, even unintentionally, it limits who can fully participate. ➡️ Accessibility at Avallain At Avallain, accessibility is a core requirement across our solutions. It shapes how our platforms are designed and how content behaves in real learning environments. In Avallain Author, our flexible, AI-powered authoring tool, this is reflected through screen reader compatibility, full keyboard navigation and features such as AI-generated alt-text, transcripts and subtitles. Continuous auditing ensures alignment with WCAG 2.2 AA standards. ➡️ From platform to content: auditing Activity Types Accessible technology alone is not enough. Accessibility also depends on how content is authored. Activity Types in Avallain Author are audited against accessibility standards, guided by the 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝘁 (𝗘𝗔𝗔) and the 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁 (𝗔𝗗𝗔), ensuring interactions are usable for a wide range of learners. This is supported by the Mercury Design Pack, which provides accessible layouts, consistent interaction patterns and responsive design across devices. ➡️ Understanding different types of impairment WCAG 2.2 outlines four categories of impairment that accessible digital content should address: visual, hearing, motor and cognitive. ➡️ Examples in practice In practice, this is evident in how different Activity Types are designed and used. Here are a few examples: ➖ 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 supports learners with visual impairments through clear structure and screen reader compatibility. ➖ 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 support learners with hearing impairments through captions, transcripts and alternative formats. ➖ 𝗚𝗮𝗽𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 supports learners with motor impairments through full keyboard interaction. ➖ 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 support learners with cognitive and learning disabilities through simple, predictable interaction patterns. 🔸 Explore the carousel to take a closer look at each example and see how accessible interaction design works in practice. 🔗 Learn more about Avallain Author by following the link: https://lnkd.in/e-Ks8Ye8 _ #Accessibility #InclusiveEducation #DigitalLearning #WCAG #EAA #ADA #Publishing #AvallainAuthor
