  • Alberta’s innovation economy is gaining real momentum. This week Alberta’s government invested $46M in clean-tech projects to help industry solve big environmental challenges – from advanced water treatment to faster tailings reclamation – while creating new jobs and strengthening competitiveness. And southern Alberta is drawing national attention for a growing cluster of companies developing AI-enabled aerospace and defence technologies. This includes Landing Zones Canada – which recently received over $1 million in federal funding to enhance and commercialize its AI-powered drone technologies. These companies are advancing innovations with both civilian uses (like weather modelling) and defence applications (such as UAV testing and high-altitude autonomous systems). These investments and breakthroughs are building Alberta’s reputation as a place where innovators can scale technologies that matter. #ABtech #ABinnovation #Cleantech #AI

Cybersecurity is critically important to the province and the government, and that's why we are committing more funding to it in Budget 2026. We managed close to 3,000 cybersecurity incidents last year — a roughly 35 per cent increase compared with 2024 and we will continue to patch and replace legacy systems. https://lnkd.in/gY8N2uqW

  • Albertans deserve government services that are modern, cost-effective and easy to access. We are delivering better user experiences by making more services available online and ensuring the systems behind them are secure. How are we doing this? ➡️ By expanding high-speed internet across the province using fibre, wireless and satellite technology. ➡️ Updating government software to improve speed and give Albertans more control over their personal information. ➡️ Using secure, governed data to make better decisions while maintaining strict privacy standards. ➡️ Training Alberta public staff to use emerging tools like AI safely and ethically to better serve the public. Modernizing our technology builds a government that works faster and stays safer for everyone. #ABTech #Innovation

    • Modern services for every Albertan.
  • Alberta is positioned to lead the global race for data centre capacity. At today’s Digital Innovation Forum in Calgary, Minister Nate Glubish talked about a once-in-a-generation economic opportunity that could bring up to $100 billion in investment to our province. Why is Alberta the right spot? ✔️ We have a stable power grid and know how to build large-scale infrastructure. ✔️ Our cooler climate naturally reduces data centre cooling costs. ✔️ We have some of the best energy engineers and AI experts in the world. ✔️ We have a disciplined regulatory environment and the new Data Centre Concierge Program to help projects move faster. We are growing this industry while making sure Albertans come first. Our plan keeps the power grid reliable for everyone while building a stronger economy. #AIDataCentres #ArtificialIntelligence #DigitalInnovation

  • Earlier this year, Alberta’s government announced new #broadband projects that will expand access to reliable, high‑speed internet across the province. This latest phase of Alberta’s Broadband Strategy brings Alberta closer to its goal of provincewide connectivity, with a focus on improving access in rural, remote and Indigenous communities. Reliable high‑speed internet supports participation in today’s digital world, including education, remote work, online services and business growth. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g_hebThf

  • 🏗️ Construction on the expansion of Red Deer Polytechnic’s Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing – Technology Access Centre (CIM‑TAC) continues to move forward and remains on schedule for completion in fall 2026. Once complete, the expanded facility will increase capacity for applied research, advanced manufacturing and innovation, while supporting hands‑on learning for post‑secondary students and strengthening connections with industry. The expansion will enhance space for emerging technologies such as robotics and automation, helping Alberta companies modernize and grow. The Innovation Catalyst Grant (ICG) program at the University of Alberta is celebrating the success of its most recent entrepreneurial fellows. Meet Remy Samson, co-founder of Elementiam Materials & Manufacturing Inc. Historically, industrial robots are powerful but inflexible–limited to repeating the same task with the same specifications. With a 2-year ICG award and access to professor Ahmed Jawad QURESHI PhD., PEng.’s additive manufacturing lab, Remy is addressing this constraint. Elementiam’s adaptive software and turnkey robotic system can be an enabler for companies to start using additive and advanced manufacturing, with local fabrication and repair supporting the reshoring of our industrial economy, as noted by Matthew Cornall and ICG program manager Claire Kay. ICG is funded by Alberta Technology and Innovation to support recent STEM graduates in commercializing innovative science-based technologies. ThresholdImpact Venture Mentoring Service has played a key role as Remy builds his entrepreneurial skillset, and Alberta Innovates, Mitacs, NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL CANADA (IRAP) and Edmonton Unlimited have also been critical for Elementiam’s early growth.  Watch the full success story here: https://lnkd.in/g5tXa9E5

  • Have your say on Alberta’s private-sector privacy law. We’re modernizing the Personal Information Protection Act to help ensure Albertans enjoy the strongest privacy protections in today’s digital world. The act sets out the rules for how private organizations collect, use, disclose and protect personal information and has not been substantially updated since 2010. The public engagement runs from February 2 to February 17 and Albertans, private-sector organizations and subject-matter experts are invited to take the survey and share their thoughts. This information will be considered by the Information and Privacy Commissioner to help inform the potential updates to the act and its regulations. Take the survey by February 17: https://lnkd.in/gRRdeGTx

  • 🔒Today is Data Privacy Day. Protecting Albertans’ personal information is essential in a rapidly evolving digital world. Alberta’s government is committed to providing the strongest privacy protections in Canada, including through the new Protection of Privacy Act, which embeds privacy‑by‑design into all government programs and services. This year’s theme, “Take control of your data,” highlights the role we all play in understanding how our information is collected, used and stored. Albertans can learn more about how their privacy is protected at https://lnkd.in/g837u2dh #DataPrivacyDay
