Troy Martin, P.Eng. shared thisOne legacy Wi-Fi device can consume 22× as much airtime as a modern Wi-Fi 6 frame. And you designed your entire network to protect it. That's what LCMI does. Find your weakest critical device. Strip out the DFS channels so it doesn't crash. Disable 802.11r so its drivers don't panic. Tune your cell sizes so it never drops at the edge. Then watch your AMR fleet stop mid-aisle. Watch your VoIP calls drop in the hallway. Watch 64% of your 5 GHz spectrum go dark — facility-wide — to babysit a device that costs less than a monthly SaaS subscription. The LCMI philosophy made sense when your wireless population consisted of a single device class. That world is gone. Today's networks have to simultaneously serve infusion pumps that crash on DFS events AND autonomous robots that need sub-50ms roaming. Legacy scanners that fall apart on 802.11r AND VoIP handsets that can't work without it. You cannot satisfy both in a monolith. Physics won't allow it. There's a better way to think about this — and I wrote it up. 👉 Parallel Reality Architecture (PRA): stop designing for the weakest link. Start building independent, purpose-tuned RF environments for each device cohort. Let the infusion pump live in its lane. Unleash the AMR in its own. Full article in the comments. Would love to hear from anyone still defending LCMI in a multi-cohort environment. 👇

Troy Martin, P.Eng. reposted this𝗪𝗶-𝗙𝗶 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 & 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 - moving from coverage maps to measurable outcomes ✅ Vivid fireside chat at the #WGCAmericas around one of the fundamental topics for the next wave of wireless evolution: how the industry moves toward more predictable, measurable, and operationally consistent Wi-Fi deployments. And... why do we really need it? Troy Martin, Ookla does it again - bringing the audience all the way to interstellar space with analogies around planetary physics and categorization models, while diving into how Ookla assesses and benchmarks real-world Wi-Fi network performance at scale. A strong reminder that theoretical capability and real user experience are often very different things. Rie Morgan, NC-Expert shared how working across highly complex deployment environments continues to reinforce the need for stronger standardization, clearer education paths, and a more unified industry approach , helping bridging the gap between engineering and operational practices. Brad Howell, Wyebot brought the critical operational lens around post-deployment validation, continuous monitoring, AI-assisted visibility, and long-term optimization - helping organizations move from “deployment completed” to sustained business outcomes over time. Mark Edwards, The Home Depot part of the leadership team, brings valuable real-world enterprise deployment perspectives and the operational use cases driving many of today’s network refresh cycles and wireless evolution initiatives. Wi-Fi 7 and upcoming generations, AI, automation, low-latency applications, converged wireless environments, and next-generation services will only reach their full potential if the industry improves how networks are: ✔️ Designed ✔️ Validated ✔️ Monitored ✔️ Continuously optimized The future of Wi-Fi depends not only on better technology - but on more consistent and measurable outcomes. Building on momentum from #WLPC Phoenix and #WiFiDesignDay London, it's great to see strong industry alignment around something that can add value on top of the hundreds of millions of Wi-Fi networks already deployed globally, helping address long-standing industry gaps. Troy Martin, P.Eng. shared thisMatt Starling shared a simple graphic listing the connection steps for Wi-Fi devices. Do all of your Wi-Fi clients connect successfully? Are they able to access network resources once connected? Save this infographic as a quick reference for your Wi-Fi troubleshooting.Troy Martin, P.Eng. shared thisI remember getting a call from a customer who had been using the network we had deployed a few months prior, at 9:01 am on a Monday morning. "The Wi-Fi is down across the whole building." It wasn't. Every device showed connected. Full signal. But no one could load a single page or send any emails. Sound familiar? The Wi-Fi part was working perfectly. The problem was further up the stack. Joining a Wi-Fi network appears instant to a user, but under the hood, there are 7 distinct steps that take roughly 300 milliseconds. Probe, authenticate, associate, complete the 4-way handshake, connect at Layer 2, get an IP address from DHCP, then resolve DNS. Three places where it most commonly breaks: ▪️ The 4-way handshake fails when the passphrase is wrong. ▪️ DHCP fails when the server is down or unreachable. ▪️ DNS fails when the resolver is unreachable. That Monday morning? The DHCP server had gone down overnight. Took us five minutes once we knew where to look. Knowing which step actually failed is half the troubleshooting. What's the most memorable "the Wi-Fi is down" call you've taken that turned out not to be the Wi-Fi?

🚨 HPE Telco Service Orchestrator faces critical vulnerabilities affecting telecommunications infrastructure worldwide, with 2 high-severity flaws discovered in versions prior to v5.0.2 and v4.2.1. 🔍 The security bulletin reveals a dangerous combination: remote denial of service capabilities and unauthorized exposure of sensitive information. Given that telecom orchestrators manage network service provisioning across carrier infrastructure, these vulnerabilities could impact millions of subscribers within a 72-hour exposure window if exploited. 📊 Analysis shows that 78% of telecom operators still run legacy orchestration platforms, making this particularly concerning. The timing coincides with a 156% increase in telecom-targeted attacks over the past 18 months, as threat actors increasingly focus on critical communications infrastructure. 🛠️ The remote DoS vulnerability (HPESBNW04901) enables attackers to disrupt service orchestration without authentication, while the information exposure flaw (HPESBNW04902) could leak network topology data and service configurations. For operators managing 10,000+ network functions, service disruption could cascade across entire regional networks. ⚡ Security teams should prioritize patching within 48 hours, as telecom infrastructure represents a prime target for nation-state actors. The Canadian Cyber Centre's advisory timing suggests heightened threat intelligence around telecommunications targeting. The convergence of DoS and data exposure vulnerabilities in critical telecom infrastructure demands immediate action from network security teams. https://lnkd.in/dCdAP7f2 #ThreatIntelligence #TelecomSecurity #CriticalInfrastructure #VulnerabilityManagement #HPE #NetworkSecurity #CyberThreat #InfoSec #IncidentResponse #DoS

Cogeco Readies Wireless Service Rollout in Canada Under MVNO Framework After years of anticipation, Cogeco Inc. says its wireless service is finally underway in Canada. Cogeco's President and CEO, Frederic Perron, announced on Wednesday that an initial group of customers has already signed up for the new mobile service following a pre-registration period. The company plans to expand its wireless coverage to 12 Canadian markets across parts of Ontario and Quebec in the coming weeks, ahead of a full commercial launch scheduled for this fall. Perron emphasized that the mobile service will remain exclusive to customers who also subscribe to Cogeco's wireline services, aiming to leverage bundling as a key strategy for customer retention. While declining to share specific pricing details publicly, Perron stated the company intends to announce these offers directly to its customers first. He also mentioned a "time-limited launch bonus" for early adopters, clarifying that these discounts are not a long-term pricing strategy. "We’re a rational player," Perron stated, indicating a focused, rather than national, rollout strategy. Cogeco's entry into the Canadian wireless market is being facilitated through the mobile virtual network operator (#MVNO) framework, which allows telecoms to offer mobile service via other operators' networks. A homemade framework, by the CRTC, aims to boost competition in the wireless sector by enabling regional operators to establish a presence in areas they previously didn't serve, with a requirement to build their own networks within seven years. Which is then not a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, but a Mobile Network Operator. Adding to Cogeco's challenges, Perron voiced strong disapproval of the CRTC's recent decision to allow the three largest telecoms to use the wholesale internet framework, which includes Cogeco's networks. He criticized the decision, stating, "The CRTC is stubbornly maintaining a broken TPIA or resale regime that has completely failed to meet its original objective to help new entrants get into the market." Perron urged the federal cabinet to intervene and overturn the decision, asserting that Cogeco "intends to remain a growing competitive force in this country." https://lnkd.in/g2aqi4MK
