Strengthening and creating pathways for volunteerism and civic engagement in Alberta. Doing good, together.

About us

Volunteer Alberta (VA) helps Alberta do good, together. As a diverse and inclusive member association, VA nourishes the conditions for civic engagement and volunteerism in the province. We work with nonprofits across Alberta as a capacity-building and capability-nourishing organization. Our work is guided by two strategic priorities: 1. We are Cultivators We nurture conditions for volunteerism and civic engagement by focusing on connection, collaboration, and change-making. • Connectors: We bridge relationships, facilitate partnerships, and convene cross-sector conversations to include diverse perspectives, address challenges, and imagine possibilities for our sector. • Collaborators: We co-design initiatives with members and partners, convene in meaningful conversations, and contribute resources to support mission-aligned initiatives. • Change-Makers: We support research, policy shifts, pilots, and experiments to enhance volunteering and civic engagement, advocating for macro and micro-level changes to build thriving communities. 2. We are Illuminators We endeavor to shine a light on promising paths for volunteering and civic engagement through dreaming, seeking, and incubating. • Dream Hosts: We help members and partners to envision positive futures that galvanize and focus work for positive change and contribute to the “futures literacy” of our sector. • Seekers: We engage in social research, aim to decolonize our practices, and explore developments that support communities of belonging and wellbeing. • Incubators: We support prototypes, pilots, and novel initiatives, welcoming ideas from our community to navigate our rapidly changing contexts and find positive ways forward. Together with our members and partners, we strive to create engaged, connected, and empowered communities for a flourishing Alberta. • A HUGE thank you to Panago Pizza for helping fuel volunteer appreciation events across Alberta for National Volunteer Week last month! 🍕 From volunteers connecting between shifts to shared laughs around the pizza table, these moments remind us of what volunteering is about: connection, community, and showing up for one another. 💜 Volunteers keep our communities thriving, and we loved seeing people come together to celebrate that over a slice or two. As the Central Lions Seniors Association put it: "Nothing says thank you like a warm slice of pizza! Thank you Panago for feeding our fabulous folks!" On April 22, the association treated their volunteers to an appreciation luncheon, and Panago showed up to serve slices for everyone! When helping hands gather, good things happen. Thank you, Panago! 💜 #Volunteers #Panago #VolunteerAlberta #Albertanonprofits #NVW2026 #IVY2026 #IgniteVolunteerism

  • "These connections, these relationships, this mutuality, this sense of belonging, for me, creates such a sense of hope and possibility about how, collectively, we can come back together." Volunteer Alberta's Executive Director, Miki Stricker-Talbot, recently spoke with the St. Albert Gazette to share what the data from Volunteer Alberta's Volunteer Participation Survey Report really tells us: shifts in volunteerism reflect busy lives and competing priorities, and not a lack of care. People are simply being more intentional about how they give back. 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gmY7HxrM 👉 Read the Volunteer Participation Survey Report: https://lnkd.in/gqVhaP32
