Happy Pi Day! On this day we celebrate the mathematical constant pi (π) for it's usefulness in calculations for circular/spherical volumes and areas, such as calculating the circumference of a circle, and defining radian measure in trigonometry. Here are two activities to highlight this special math day and concept with your students: 1. Have a Pi recitation competition; see who can recite the most numbers of pi. 2. In small groups, have each student roll a die and whoever rolls the first 5 digits of pi wins! 3. Bring in a few pizzas or pies and have your students calculate the circumference of each, and then you can eat them!
